FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Missouri police have been brushing up on constitutional rights and stocking up on riot gear to prepare for a grand jury's decision about whether to charge a white police officer who fatally shot a black 18-year-old in suburban St. Louis.
The preparations are aimed at avoiding a renewed outbreak of violence during the potentially large demonstrations that could follow an announcement of whether Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson will face a criminal trial for the Aug. 9 death of Michael Brown.
Police and protesters have repeatedly clashed since the shooting, which prompted a national conversation about race and police tactics. Images of officers in riot gear and armored vehicles confronting protesters have drawn widespread criticism.
Many protesters want Darren Wilson indicted for murder. Grand jury proceedings are secret, but legal analysts say recently leaked information about Wilson's testimony to investigators may be an attempt to prepare the public for the possibility that he might not be charged.

Keep in mind that he’s still a cop, and subject to the orders of his superiors.
The trap that a lot of people keep falling into, I think, is believing that if he comes out, tells his story, people will react to it thoughtfully and reasonably, and will respond appropriately.
Thats overlooking that the protests/riots are deliberate agitation to achieve defined political goals. Iow there’s no reasoning with them - they don’t really care about facts, just about how perception and past grievances can be leveraged for political gain.
There’s no real way to argue with that, because the other side just isn’t listening and is completely unwilling to.

My wife now, she also has some black co-workers. Maybe one is a friend of hers. The rest are morally Al Sharpton clones.
The difference is, I suppose, that all of my acquaintances are working for a private company, hence they are workers, or they don't last. My wife works for state government, hence many (white and black)do not do much in the way of work. That's OK, there are a few people like her there to get the actual work done.
You see a pattern, and if you are smart who start from that pattern when meeting new people. But if you are smart, you modify your perceptions for the individual as you get to know them. You do that for all people, white and black or whatever.
Pretty sure Wilson does not think of himself as “a skinny little twerp.” If he violated protocol then he should get (and probably has gotten) grief for it, but I’m not convinced he did.
Totally agree that the people calling for Wilson’s execution are endorsing evil and should be called on it. Still remember the days when reporters actually commented on the reality of what was going on — “protestors want this, but the law says...” — but don’t really expect them to do that anymore. What does infuriate me is that there are so few black people standing up and saying, “Black people trying to do the lynching is not progress.”
well it’s a little late now, but hiding hasn’t helped him. He acted like a big coward, not showing his face, having just that one dorky photo out there, trying to totally disappear, not putting his background and story out there to humanize himself.
The Ferguson PD is so ridiculous and they need a public affairs department that is not so effing incompetent. Les incompetentes. Idiots. Haven’t made things any better.

Why do you expect a cop to act like a politician? In my (admittedly limited)experience, cops care about the law, not politics. They also hate it when the law “goes political,” and no way will they play that game.

Wishful thinking, it will never happen. Because there is no such thing as a "White Moderate". All moderates are just Liberals that do not have the courage to admit that they are Liberals and they also hate the fact that they were born White. Legitimate protests are acceptable, on the other hand if the animals get violent, destructive and hurtful toward innocent citizens then time to heed the creed “You loot, we shoot.”
Actually, they are just waiting for the stores to re-stock. No point in looting an open store.
If a feral lynch mob wanted my neck, I'd be in hiding, too. Heck, I'd probably think seriously about leaving the country.
