AP ^ | October 18, 2014 | Erica Werner

A ban on travel from West Africa might seem like a simple and smart response to the frightening Ebola outbreak there... But health experts are nearly unanimous in saying it's a bad idea that could backfire.

They must think we are idiots. The key argument is that a travel ban would restrict supplies from getting into the affected areas.

How does a ban on travelers arriving in the US restrict supplies from arriving in the hot zone?????

This is the identical argument (even uses the same syntax) that "allowing HIV testing will drive patients underground and spread the disease".

Same argument, same "experts" making it. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

And please no complaining about Obama’s inaction on this thread. CONGRESS makes laws. This can be a law. The House passes it, and if Reid or Obama reject it, it’s an election gift.

The question is why Boehner is sitting on this.

A ban on travel from West Africa should have been done MONTHS ago.

A ban also, on visa from those countries.

Sure we need to cure the disease, but stop spreading it for now!!

Mexico and Jamaica refused to allow a cruise ship to dock when one passenger had treated Duncan. Obama and his tail wagging lackeys are constantly saying a travel ban would not be 100% effective. Maybe not. But, it IS another tool to use to keep potential carriers away from here.

Actually, it is already law. I agree with your question on why Boehner is sitting on this. He and the rest of the Republicans should be out there daily, citing the law and the times in the past that Obama invoked it.

8 U.S.C. 1182(f) states ‘[W]henever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he deems to be appropriate.’

Obama utilized this provision in August 2011, ‘to restrict the international travel and to suspend the entry into the United States, as immigrants or nonimmigrants, of certain persons’ who participated in serious human rights and humanitarian law violations. Preventing Americans from contracting Ebola, which the World Health Organization (WHO) notes ‘has a death rate of up to 90%’ and has already killed at least 4,484 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, is every bit as important as preventing human rights abusers from entering the United States. They should be hammering this point.

And we are idiots. Pathetic, action less idiots, hesitant and resistant to do what is right when threatened with danger and ridicule from those we entrust with our safety.
1000 people are under some type of watch in the US because of one man flying legally to the US. Who is footing the bill for this effort, what about the drag on the efficiency of a normal life that this increased monitoring will ensure. And we tolerate this because.......why? Because the so called experts say everything is ok. Like Obama said a few weeks ago. Before Duncan infected others, who exposed others, and so on and so on.
We are being lied to and being exposed to something sinister.
The appointment of a political hack to be Czar of Ebola. Sounds to me like the Protocols are being written and they aren't for our safety. More likely,
This lawyer will be overseeing the drafting of language that further intrudes on Americans suspected of having come in contact with the virus.
Again, as the numbers multiply, we idiots will follow the plan that our government prescribes and the GMA’s tell us to. Cause we certainly don't want to appear to our friends and neighbors to be idiots.

According to the collectivists the more effective the quarantine the more effective it becomes as spreading the disease!

They can bring all the medical supplies & aid they need, but those people need to be in quarantine before they can leave.
If they don’t have a visa from the U.S. to come here, they can’t get in. How hard is that?

they must think we're idiots

As an aggregate we are. The bottom line argument no one is making is that not restricting travel and entry into the US is totally ineffective in keeping infected people out.

Disease brought back with the Crusaders nearly destroyed Europe for good. Disease brought with colonists and explorers decimated indigenous people everywhere. Sane people just do not bring a disease into an area that hasn't been infected by it. It presents a new set of challenges that impacts everything else.

How much abundance of caution will it take to seriously impact life in the US? I could imagine pockets of economic impacts, curtailment of services, and isolationist behavior happening in the US.Yesterday I noticed something interesting. The line of people at the bank making cash withdrawls was pretty long.

It doesn't have top be a hypothetical argument.

Let's impose the ban, control the borders and see how it works out....

My son said this compare this to when your child is sick. Do you send him to school or keep him home?

The govt would say, if we keep the sick child home, we are increasing the chances that his classmates will get it. So we must send the sick child to school to make sure his sickness doesn’t spread to his classmates.

Totally backward! hese people think we are brain dead.

Did you honesty believe that the media would not do as they are told?

The new “Ebola Czar” has two goals: spread the money around to the right people (he is a bagman), and keep the lid on the information, at least until the election.
