Halloween Canceled in PA Town Due to Eric Frein Manhunt

A Pennsylvania town has banned trick-or-treating this year while hundreds of law enforcement officials search nearby woods for accused cop killer Eric Frein.

The Barrett Township said its annual Halloween parade and 5K Scarecrow Race are canceled indefinitely, and trick-or-treating is banned this year, as the dragnet for Frein is now in its fourth week. The suspect is believed to be hiding out in thick woods near the town.

"This parade is probably one of the biggest events that the town has every year," Ralph Megliola, chairman of the township's Board of Supervisors, told ABC News today. "Everyone looks forward to the parade. Myself and my family personally have been away and cut our vacation short to get home in time for the parade. Thousands of people line the streets."

Megliola said that this year would have been the town's 50th anniversary parade. It was scheduled for Oct. 26.

Many people worried that Frein could escape during the Halloween activities with the help of disguises or costumes, ABC affiliate WNEP reported.

A saw a man on the “CBS Evening News” who said he owned land in the area of Pennsylvania where the search is being conducted.

He said the “authorities” told him he would be arrested if he went hunting on his own land.

What are they going to do when hunting season opens?

I bring this up because serial bomber Eric Rudolph had sympathizers around the country. On the morning news bloc the experts, including a former NAVY SEAL, habe suggested this as being possible. Outdoors, he would eventually, unless using a decent home, eventually have a thermal presence when the cold kicked in.

When this manhunt is finally over, whatever the outcome, this man’s family may want to consider moving away, far away. Whether justified or not, some townspeople will say the family was/is complicit with aiding and abetting his crimes. They won’t forget the level of cruelty or derangement that allowed the copkiller to frighten and inconvienance the entire town for so long. Boston went through this same city wide lock down very briefly after the Boston Marathon Bombings, and the two Tsarnov brothers were on the run.

You can’t see the behavioral difference between Halloween and Christmas?

Looks like you’re the idiot.

Do they honestly think he’s still in the area, a month later ?

I think he’s been long gone.

Halloween has the spooky aspect that Christmas doesn’t. The problem is by what reason is a large lumbering brute force search supposed to work? What’s better is if you can bait Frein as opposed to sweep a given area. More likely than not, if he spent years planning the murder, he is hiding in the home of a fellow cop hater somewhere in rural PA.

Just set a policy that the person who helps catch him has no limits for the next few hunting or fishing seasons.

He’ll be in custody in 24 hours.

I agree. Either he’s left or he is hiding out in a person’s house. There are plenty of crazies in the U.S. alone who wouldn’t mind giving him a place to stay. He more than likely is staying in a house.

Apparently the state troopers do not think that hunters stand a chance against someone they deem to be a super-marksman. They also probably don’t want vigilantism among the hunters, or having to pay a bounty hunter the advertised reward.

That makes it sound a lot like a very different agenda. Almost Emmanuel Goldstein-ish.

They gave the schoolkids a whole week off school over this guy, too.

A local story had one guy who could not get back into his development for 38 hours and he was not sure if his dogs were still alive. They would have to shoot me in the back to stop me. Bastards.

Another local story had a guy who went out to get milk and groceries for his wife and newborn, and when he tried to get back into the development, the police would not let him in.

I knew Halloween was dead many years ago when “trunk or treat” took hold...

What a way to ruin a great day.

I want them to stay on the hunt and bring that cop killing POS out in a body bag.

The LEO managers must be convinced he is still alive and in the woods or they would never spend all of the overtime it’s got too be costing their budgets.

He was the poster who brought up the idiot bit. I just played off of that.

Halloween has kids dressed up in costumes running all over the place. Adults too. Maybe even dressed like this guy.

Christmas has very few people outside.

They don’t on the sightings, but they have matched his DNA to evidence they have found in the cabins. There was also an attempted break in at a local food bank.

"His" land? It's the King's Land, peasant - and don't you forget it.
