Halloween Canceled in PA Town Due to Eric Frein Manhunt

A Pennsylvania town has banned trick-or-treating this year while hundreds of law enforcement officials search nearby woods for accused cop killer Eric Frein.

The Barrett Township said its annual Halloween parade and 5K Scarecrow Race are canceled indefinitely, and trick-or-treating is banned this year, as the dragnet for Frein is now in its fourth week. The suspect is believed to be hiding out in thick woods near the town.

"This parade is probably one of the biggest events that the town has every year," Ralph Megliola, chairman of the township's Board of Supervisors, told ABC News today. "Everyone looks forward to the parade. Myself and my family personally have been away and cut our vacation short to get home in time for the parade. Thousands of people line the streets."

Megliola said that this year would have been the town's 50th anniversary parade. It was scheduled for Oct. 26.

Many people worried that Frein could escape during the Halloween activities with the help of disguises or costumes, ABC affiliate WNEP reported.

Sad that the entire community has to have their Halloween festivities screwed up for this. I understand that he must be found, but at some point, these residents need their lives and their town back, and not under unrelenting siege. You know what I hope happens? I hope a neighboring town in that area does the Christian thing, and invites several school districts over there to join in the autumn fun. Isn’t that what happened during that big New Jersey Flood in November of 2012?

So are they going to cancel Christmas, too? Idiots.

It’s different when Jason/Freddy/Michael Myers really are running around, even if they touch on the ghoulish theme.

The perp seems to be way ahead of the cops on this one. How do they know he is still in the area?

They keep finding fresh indicators that he is around. Some of the homes in the area are seasonal and he is breaking in and staying in them for a little while,

Part of what is keeping the police presence high in the area is the number of sighting called in by citizens.

Someone should look into the Board of Supervisors compensation plan that he "has been away and needs to cut a vacation short" when it is still TWO WEEKS prior to the Halloween holiday.

Why not just invite Frein to give a college commencement speech, and give him an NPR gig?

That's dumb. A hunter could end up bagging something other than a buck or doe, and this manhunt is over.

AFAIK, the area is full of forest and/or fellow anarchists who would be more than willing to let him stay.

Or you could end up being 'bagged' by a police officer. One does not want to be near the police when they're on the prowl for an alleged cop-killer.

I should not have been surprised and/or worried by the prospect you presented, but I am. I suppose it’s true; in a country as vast as USA, there is enough space for all manner of extremists to set up private little weaponized fiefdoms for whatever reason. I know that happens around here in Northern California. Around Modesto, there are scores of unwatched undermonitored acres. Green Acres, the place to be.

IOW, the cops aren’t planning on catching him in the next three weeks. Ok, throw up your hands, call off the search and go home.

He’s most likely been long gone a month ago.

“Sad that the entire community....”
Yes, especially since, in my opinion, Frein is not even in the area any longer, “sleepin’ on da’ cold, cold ground.” I think that since he had planned this for several years; within a week after the dastardly deed, he had split the scene and is holed up in a safe house, toasty warm, somewhere in Dixie, laughing up his sleeve at the goings-on in Canadensis.

How do they know it’s him and not some other homeless folk or teens out for a good time?
