Centers for Disease Control: Ebola (Ebola Virus Disease)
Centers for Disease Control ^ | CDC

What are body fluids?

Ebola has been detected in blood and many body fluids. Body fluids include saliva, mucus, vomit, feces, sweat, tears, breast milk, urine, and semen.

Can Ebola spread by coughing? By sneezing?

Unlike respiratory illnesses like measles or chickenpox, which can be transmitted by virus particles that remain suspended in the air after an infected person coughs or sneezes, Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with body fluids of a person who has symptoms of Ebola disease. Although coughing and sneezing are not common symptoms of Ebola, if a symptomatic patient with Ebola coughs or sneezes on someone, and saliva or mucus come into contact with that person’s eyes, nose or mouth, these fluids may transmit the disease.

What does “direct contact” mean?

Direct contact means that body fluids (blood, saliva, mucus, vomit, urine, or feces) from an infected person (alive or dead) have touched someone’s eyes, nose, or mouth or an open cut, wound, or abrasion.

How long does Ebola live outside the body?

Ebola is killed with hospital-grade disinfectants (such as household bleach). Ebola on dried on surfaces such as doorknobs and countertops can survive for several hours; however, virus in body fluids (such as blood) can survive up to several days at room temperature.

Are patients who recover from Ebola immune for life? Can they get it again - the same or a different strain?

Recovery from Ebola depends on good supportive clinical care and a patient’s immune response. Available evidence shows that people who recover from Ebola infection develop antibodies that last for at least 10 years, possibly longer.

We don’t know if people who recover are immune for life or if they can become infected with a different species of Ebola.

If someone survives Ebola, can he or she still spread the virus?

Once someone recovers from Ebola, they can no longer spread the virus. However, Ebola virus has been found in semen for up to 3 months. People who recover from Ebola are advised to abstain from sex or use condoms for 3 months.

Can Ebola be spread through mosquitos?

There is no evidence that mosquitos or other insects can transmit Ebola virus. Only mammals (for example, humans, bats, monkeys and apes) have shown the ability to spread and become infected with Ebola virus.

Interesting stuff from our government on some web page.

Seems so much different than what’s spread by the media and government talking heads

The answer to the question about spreading by sneezing or coughing is quite convoluted. It’s like they were trying to “bury the lede”. The simple answer is: “Yes, you can catch it, if an infected person sneezes or coughs directly on you.” So, it’s not as contagious as ordinary flu — but, it’s possibly a lot more contagious than we were being led to believe, until quite recently.

I just do not trust the CDC at all because back in the 1995 outbreak it was widely reported that Ebola was airborne now it is denied that it ever was now.

Direct contact means that body fluids (blood, saliva, mucus, vomit, urine, or feces) from an infected person (alive or dead) have touched someone’s eyes, nose, or mouth or an open cut, wound, or abrasion, OR OPEN SKIN (gets in pores).

There...Fixed it!

The other gem in here is that we have 2,000 survivors who are immune for a decade or more. Why are they not being paid generously to transport and provide hands-on care for the sick? They would inspire confidence and save the lives of doctors and nurses who could stand back a little and coach the survivor/caregivers.

Errr, what if it’s a different strain? Mutated? Whose willing to take that risk?

Also, what if the immune system doesn’t kick in with the antibodies right away, wouldn’t they then become asymptomatic carriers? Or their high rate of perpetual re-infection would make them like 2000 Typhoid Marys.

Does the CDC know why that cameraman in a protective suit contracted ebola?

Right. If you so much as touch a dead victim with bare skin, you’re infected.

I’m no fan of Obama’s CDC, but a brilliant guy who knows a lot about Ebola told Hannity that there are many different strains of Ebola. There was even a strain that liquified bodies in two days. That strain was aggressively suppressed in Africa, along with all Ebola outbreaks prior to President Ebola’s Ebola.

Uh, I mean president Eboloa’s Obama.

Or rather ...

President Ebola’s ‘Ebol-ee’.

According to the specialist who reached Hannity, Ebola mutates quickly.

The same happened with the Black Death. At first it was only caught through flea bites and puss. But it later became airborn.

Speaking of fleas, they inject their host with their waste. I can’t imagine fleas not being carriers. And if not mistaken, other flying insects do the same.

Why do they lie to make their politicians look good? I don’t feel sorry if anything happens to some person from the CDC, because they are more interested in political party than in saving any American lives.

Just how dumb does our government think we are?

Ebola can’t be transmitted by a sneeze? BULLSHIT!

What is the difference in kissing someone with Ebola on the lips (exchanging spit) and a sneeze that sprays their spit (a bodily fluid) on you or an object you will pick up.

If you believe this forget about a bridge for sale in New York and start to believe Obama is the greatest president we have ever had.

Although it’s round-about in the way this is written, it does say that a person CAN get ebola from a sneeze. They begin by saying that sneezing isn’t a symptom of ebola. Who cares? Sneezing is a symptom of being a human.

Just last night, I watched the Spanish news to see what they are telling the Hispanic community. They had a Spanish speaking person from CDC. She was saying that there was no neeed to panic. It is important to wash your hands. It is not contagous. The following statement of hers gave me the WTF! She said the virus has been around in this country. This is not the first time. So I came to a conclusion....WE’RE SCREWED.

He did not live in a protective suit.

He was in Liberia for a couple weeks before NBC hired him as a cameraman.
