Politico Mag Implies George Wallace Was GOP, Blames Country's Divisions Entirely on Whites'...
Newsbusters ^ | September 30, 2014 | Tom Blumer

A number of center-right and New Media outlets have noted Politico Magazine's disingenuousness in the opening photograph in its "Race and the Modern GOP" article.

At the item's top is the iconic "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door" photo showing onetime segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace "try(ing) to block the entry of two black students" into the University of Alabama. The aforementioned article title appears beneath the words "History Dept." The magazine is clearly trying to lead anyone not old enough to remember or anyone unfamiliar with U.S. history to believe that Wallace, who ran for president as a Democrat in 1964 and 1976 and as an Independent in 1968 and 1972, was a Republican. The writeup by Doug McAdam and Karen Kloos waits a dozen mostly long paragraphs before finally tagging Wallace as a Democrat.

That makes total sense. You are likely 110% correct

Violence and the Modern Democrat

Let's not kid ourselves. Today's heinous violence is due to White House foreign policy

Violence depicted in photograph is ISIL, not the Democratic party

Makes sense. Can’t have white people running the world anymore. White skin is a deformity as is blue eyes. Haven’t y’all been briefed on this stuff?

As far as I’m concerned, they can go ahead and blame white republicans for anything they want to. But while they’re at it, don’t forget to blame white republicans for the war that freed those slaves. And, remember that it was white men who fought and died for the freedom of those black slaves.

It was white men who purchased them FROM their own tribal chiefs as a result of tribal wars, otherwise, they might not even be the living descendants of those who birthed them.

Slavery is wrong, in whatever fashion it presents itself. But let’s not forget the ‘rest of the story’, either.

I’m glad they are alive, and FREE to complain, but that freedom came at a price. The blood of white men, and republicans.

Wallace had no GOP connection, but he had very different racial views after he was shot and confined to a wheelchair:

Excerpt....Less fortunate was former Alabama Governor, George Wallace, whose name has become almost synonymous with segregation. Wallace, who had long apologized for his racist views, was the frontrunner for the democratic presidential nomination in 1972 when an assassin’s bullet crippled him. One bullet lodged in his spinal column, paralyzing him from the waist down. (Trivia: Wallace’s assassin’s diary inspired the 1976 movie Taxi Driver which in turn inspired the assassination attempt on Reagan by John Hinckley, Jr.).

As he was wheeled into the Democratic National Convention in Miami, Wallace received a standing ovation. However, he lost the nomination to George McGovern. His run for the party nomination in ’76 was less successful–the media predominantly depicted Wallace on his wheelchair and this ‘helplessness’ came to define his campaign. He lost to another Southern democrat Jimmy Carter, who went on to win the presidency.

Autherine Lucy was the woman who was the first black to be admitted to U of A (under court order), but was later suspended after hostile mobs prevented her from attending classes - couldn't provide a safe environment, they said. The U also suspended one of the mob leaders, a guy named Leonard Wilson.

The left and the millennials could care less about the real history of this country.

Besides, they know everything anyway, so they can't be wrong or ignorant.

George Wallace...as a GOPer. What next, Eugene V. Debs as a radical libertarian?

Maybe, but they have never informed the black community that Martin Luther king Jr. was a REPUBLICAN!!!

Last election Wallace was elected with the Black Vote—he did a great deal for race relation toward the end—he wasn’t always a Dixiecrat-Democrat.

Martin's father - definately; Martin himself - maybe. I used to say the same thing because Mr. Martin's neice stated that he was, but then she recanted not too long ago and stated she could not be sure. If you have definative evidence, let me know; he never stated he was not Republican, he might have stated he was not a Democrat.

He might have, I know he stated he was wrong on race division. But for the Politico to write what they did was a flat out re-write of history.

The 1966 College debate topic was “Foreign Aid”, so in 1967 our 8th grade debate team picked up the subject.

Which subject? Foreign aid?

What is your point?

No, but he was always a New Dealer all the way back, and only picked up racial themes after being beaten in an election in which his opponent (and the Media) made them the whole issue.

Just their way of yelling "Cracka cracka cracka!!!"

Remember that scene in "Roots" with the display of oratorical eloquence by a Klan speaker? The next thing we saw was his teeth and tonsils. That's about the level of incisiveness on display here.

Politico has become a leftist, Obama rag. It had the potential, when it was first formed, to be a good insider political publication, but then it went off the Left End and became a propaganda voice for Obama and the Democrats.

If you read between the lines of what black civil rights activist and agitator Bob Moses said about Freedom Summer, you can see the wicked genius of the Left. They were going to use the white children of Democrat Northern Liberals as cannonfodder for the terrible police of the South and their Klan allies.

It worked. With the unjustified killing of the 3 civil rights workers (Schwerner, Goodman and Cheney), the Feds finally came in to try and stop white racial extremists against the civil rights workers. It was way too late. LBJ should have thrown Wallace and his police into a federal pen and tried them for various criminal acts of violence.

That would have broken white extremist resistance way earlier than it did.

Also, of
the 3 civil rights workers (2 whites, 1 black), the whites came from far-left, Communist-Party front affiliated families, esp. Schwerner. The CPUSA was the power behind a lot of the civil rights agitation, and provided most of the powerful attorneys (Kunstler, Kinoy, etc) who guided the protests and legal actions.

Read books about the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, Freedom Summer, etc. and you’ll find a lot of names (never properly identified as key leaders/members of CPUSA fronts, esp. the National Lawyers Guild, and the soon to be formed Center for Constitutional Rights, a Guild creation).

THe honest liberal civil rights workers were used, abused and even killed so that the Communists could gain significant influence in, and even some power, over less radical civil rights leaders and organizations (NAACP).

SCLC, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was long time in the hands of the CPUSA, from Martin Luther King Jr’s private secretary Jack O’Dell (CPUSA National Committee, South organizer and possessor of Soviet organizational documents); Stanley Levison, MLK’s personal advisor and fundraiser, as well as eventually admitted KGB bagman for the CPUSA; Jesse Jackson Jr. who promoted O’Dell within the SCLC and Op. Breadbasket/Push/Rainbow Coalition; Ralph Abernathy, who for years was affiliated with both CPUSA and Soviet fronts until he defected in the early 80’s; Joseph Lowery, red through and through; Rev. Willie Barrows (friend of Michele O), a Chicago red sympathizer and Hanoi traveler during the war; Rev. Wyatt T. Walker, color him pinko; etc.

I would say that 90% of the civil rights movement were people who were liberal but not communist, honest in thoughts and deeds, but they were coopted, usually without ever knowing it, by a very well organized, funded and decided Left, led by the Communist Party USA and its Soviet operatives.

If you read David Garrow’s book, “THe FBI and Martin Luther King Jr”, you will only get a small amount of information about the CPUSA’s literal domination of Dr. King. Garrow, a leftist, did a lot of research but either didn’t know what he had, and left it alone, or deliberately omitted any serious expose’ of the CPUSA and Dr. King/Movement.

There is so much more to this story that someone, someday will win a Pulitzer Prize for telling the truth. But not any time soon as the Pulitzer, like the Nobel Peace Prize, has been bastardized towards the Left, and the Left never likes to let the TRUTH see the light of day.

the purposeful use of the photo with what amounts to a caption readiing RACE and the modern GOP..... is really ugly.... deceitful and worthy of scorn

Politico’s editors MUST know.... know that few people read much past the first two paragraphs of any news story.

Disgusted in California

My point is that in the course of preparing for the debate I selected a quote from George Wallace.

Don’t ask me what it was, or why I chose it.

What I recall is being admonished for citing him.

Ya...47 years later I can’t imagine what he’d have to offer on Foreign Aid either....but I was 13, so who knows?
