Fugitive gunman Eric Frein has again evaded the massive police dragnet that has now been hunting him for 16 days as he ran into woods after being spotted in the Pocono Mountains.
Frein, 31, wanted for murdering one state trooper and critically injuring another, managed to flee, although MailOnline understands they have a jacket that he left behind.
Frein, who is on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List, was seen just outside the perimeter of the five-square-mile search area that up to 1,000 cops are manning at any one time.
The sighting led to a huge shift southwards as heavily armed cops were forced to rethink their tactics in their frustrating task of finding the expert woodsman...

I'm sure if you had a killer in your backyard you would want the police presence I know I would. I don't need an army of "pretend soldiers" to protect me from the likes of Eric Frein.
One could note that the standing army of militarized police is some on the Right's version of welfare.
"Hire some gunthug muscle to make me feel safe! I'll gladly spend kiryandil's tax dollars to get that "protection"!"

Ive heard a claim that he (Frein) believed one of the cops he shot was having an affair with his brothers wife.TLEIBY308 wrote: "We are not being told the whole story here, this guy is an expert marksman. One cop shot dead the other wounded, shot in the crotch on purpose."
Fascinating. I hadn't heard THAT "little detail"...

When I first moved to this town nearly 20 years ago I moved right into the middle of a manhunt with the suspect's parents right across the road.
The guy was an escapee who had threatened his parents. He was in prison for killing a man with a shotgun as he sat on the couch with his young children. He walked up to the window and shot through the window at near point blank range.
I was working 12 hour nights back then 7 days per week so I told the cop that they could leave a car in my drive if they wanted. The perp is in a supermax prison now. He was caught when a hunter spotted him and called police.

Good Lord that sounds like a nightmare. I have a neighbor that is a small township cop and when he parks his police car in his driveway sometimes for the night I sleep like a baby.

I wasn’t terribly concerned about it but I had a house that sat empty all night every night. Them parking in the drive and me leaving a couple of lights on was more for their peace of mind than mine.
I got to know the perp’s parents and they’re good folks. They’re the ones who told the police where to find him after the murder.

He killed a cop. Well, I figured as much, or perhaps some other member of the protected class. They would never expend this kind of manpower on a mere plebe.
I never did see much written about the motivation.

They may have it on their resume, but I seriously doubt that the majority were other than “barstool” SF, SEALS, or Rangers.
