Can't....stop....laughing. If the pervs want nude models to look at/draw, all they have to do is go downtown to Portland or take a drive down to the bay area. No doubt plenty of volunteers. I didn't see any gender mentioned. Or cross/trans gender either. That could bring a whole new round of comments.

Reminds me of that girly bar in Boise about 5 years ago having “art night”. Was able to circumvent the anti nudity laws by handing customers a scetch pad when they walk in the door for art night.

Seriously, who needs to go to class for a nakid woman. Just show up to any party and it’s a free buffet, and that was some 25 years ago.

Nothing pornographic about painting a beautiful nude woman.

You just have a lot of perverts out there who can’t appreciate art.

But that’s their loss.

When I was going through the diploma factory, only the higher-level drawing classes had nude models, the lower-level classes usually resorting to a student posing in some sort of dance wear. If nothing else, that weeded out most of the dilettantes and a good number of the merely curious. About all I can say is that it was one of those things that sounded vastly more entertaining to a young single guy than it actually was.

One of my professors - who did not see much value in nude models - once told me about how his own instructors used to pay people from the skid row part of town to be nude models… apparently to keep down libidos AND give students something more challenging to delineate. He was a gifted raconteur with a lot of good stories that ranged from his WWII service (8th AF) to the world of art museums, and some of what he said about human nature has proven valuable to me to this day.

As someone who took such classes as an art major, I can assure you they are not recruiting their models from the Playboy agency.

Not free. Tax payer funded.

Thinking outside the box, not, they could draw clothed models or bowls of fruit if the class was truly about mastering drawing.

I took art classes in college. We had nude models posing for us. They were not people you ever wanted to see naked. There was not the least bit sexual thing about it. But then again pervs gonna perv.

The first mistake was no charging for the classes. A small fee per session would have eliminated much of those who were merely curious.

Next, the article didn’t state if the sessions were advertised. If they were, that was a mistake. Serious artists let each other know by word of mouth where figure sessions are being held.

"Saturday Figure Drawing Group, the free class"

I can imagine the quality of model on display for a free class. We had live models (clothed) in High School, nudes in college. All paid and none worth a phone call later.
