Fed up with the GOP Establishment? That's no reason to stay home on Election Day
American Thinker ^ | 9/26/2014 | Carol Brown

With the mid-term elections weeks away, many conservatives are confronting a difficult choice. Assuming there are no solid conservatives on the ballot, do we vote for establishment candidates? Or not vote at all?

The reasons why some conservatives are on the fence or planning not to vote are well known. (And Democrats are loving every minute of it!)

I share these frustrations.

In Obungo's last two years in office, what possible assurance is there that he won't pull the nuclear option for all Senate votes?

What's the big deal? As I mentioned in the message I just posted, the whole "cloture" process isn't even mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. It's a construct of the U.S. Senate dating back many years, but there's nothing sacred about it.

WRONG!

When Scott Brown was elected we had enough to block passage. (even Brown was against obamacare proving that the parties are NOT the same).

So Reid took a bill that had already been passed, stripped it, put in Obamacare and “deemed” it passed.

Technically, ‘nuts-and-bolts’, the healthcare horse is now out of the barn.

This is how they are thinking:

“You break it, you own it. Obama broke it, and if we try to tamper with his legacy, NO ONE will be happy with our solution.”

It’s not their fault that there are a billion possible solutions. It would take a rare leader like Ronald Reagan to unite the GOP behind a single plan reg. health care. I think if Hannity were President, he might pull it off. Or maybe Beck. They are demonstrating leadership skills beyond their career positions, and Hannity in particular makes Health Care solutions sound simple.

But who can foresee any talk radio host will being respected enough in the next two years? And no politician of today is both respected by Congress and anything close to Reagan at the same time.

Can you promise me that the democrats won’t make voters out of illegal immigrants if they win?

Of course they would.

And then what?

Not a dime’s worth of difference? Do you think we would be dealing with ISIS if the GOP had the senate and WH?

If the GOP had control of the Senate and the White House, the Syrian rebels would have overthrown the Assad regime in Syria with U.S. military support by now ... and ISIS would have one less brutal Islamic dictator to deal with.

I won't be staying home but certain 'Republicans' deserve to lose.

The time to spank the GOP is during the Primaries.

And guess what?

We have primaries EVERY TWO YEARS.

And ...

Practice makes perfect.

I agree with you on that. The period from 2001-2006 demonstrated that the Republican Party should not be trusted when it comes to protecting the interests of this country’s citizenry from the predations of the Federal government.

Well said and I think we agree on many points. Conservatives stand for the rule of constitutional law. Bush the First stated the elitist philosophy when he said the “constitution is whatever the Supreme Court says it is”. That is not the rule of law but of elitists who have proven time and again that the language of the constitution is nothing but a word game to them, to be twisted to say whatever they want it to say. Politicians have been more than willing to accept power illegally to them by the courts. They pass whatever laws they want and then put the burden on us to challenge them.

First and foremost, conservatives are not elitists and oppose rule by elitists, regardless of what party label they wear.

I see the republican primaries already shaping up. The GOP will fight hard to keep moderate left leaning republicans in office.

The party will attempt to water down the conservative republican primary message with multiple moderate left leaning folks like Romney, Christie, Jeb Bush, Paul Ryan, Rubio, Perry, Scott Brown.

One GOP senator voted the wrong way (the vast majority voted correctly) in committee so you want to give the dems even more power? Weird.

Reid has a backbone? Don’t think so. he’s only lying, cheating, and stealing to keep himself out of prison. That’s not backbone that’s desperation.

Its easy. Vote, but vote for the candidate that best represents your own principles.

Regardless of party.

I too scoff at ‘Not a dime’s worth of difference’.

So when Clinton wanted to spend our way out of the Bush Recession, the GOP said ‘No’, and we came incredibly close to a balanced budget.

No difference? Lenin’s peasants were smarter than that!

My conservative friends and I know what we are about

Yes, I know you do. That's what my post was about.

With that said, please tell us the unified message of the Republican elite going into the midterm elections other than "vote for us because we are not Obama."

They don't have any message. They are craven, sniveling cowards who are of no use in saving the republic.

My issue is that YOUR friends, MY friends, and the friends of that conservative behind the tree over there have to put up with each other, which is conceptually good but which often doesn't survive first contact.

I'd suggest that a political party is in terrible shape when its "message" in a campaign season is that it's important to vote for their candidates just to keep some dude out of the leadership position in the U.S. Senate. That's it? Nothing of substance from these candidates at all? "Vote for me to get Harry Reid out of his Senate leadership position!" You've got to be kidding me.

The way to get Harry Reid out of his Senate leadership position is by defeating the jerk in his home state. That shouldn't sound outlandish, because that is exactly what happened to Tom Daschle in 2004.

The time to spank the GOP is during the Primaries.

I used to think that.

After what happened to Joe Wilson when he won the primary and the GOP launched a write-in campaign for Murkowski I'm not so sure any more.

Yes. The US can no longer succeed as a two party system. To get a viable third party, one must essentially destroy one of the two parties as a national contender. Would you rather have the opposition party be LaRaza? or The Black Panther Party?

I’d prefer the Tea Party or equivalent.

Anyone who thinks a Republican-controlled Senate is ever going to block an Obama nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court has lost his mind.

When Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated in 1993, she was the least qualified and the most radical nominee in history, with the possible exception of Thurgood Marshall.

Three Republicans voted against her.
