I'd suggest that a political party is in terrible shape when its "message" in a campaign season is that it's important to vote for their candidates just to keep some dude out of the leadership position in the U.S. Senate. That's it? Nothing of substance from these candidates at all? "Vote for me to get Harry Reid out of his Senate leadership position!" You've got to be kidding me.

The way to get Harry Reid out of his Senate leadership position is by defeating the jerk in his home state. That shouldn't sound outlandish, because that is exactly what happened to Tom Daschle in 2004.
