Jesse 'LJ' Matthew, the man charged with the abduction of missing UVA student Hannah Graham, was accused of rape when he studied at Liberty University, MailOnline can exclusively reveal.
Matthew was expelled from the Christian university founded by Jerry Falwell in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2002, following the alleged sex attack on a female student but was not charged with any crime, former teammates said.
Police announced last night that Matthew was arrested in Galveston, Texas, after going on the run. He appeared in court there this morning charged with Hannah's abduction 'with intent to defile' and is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
As a gifted football player, 'LJ' - as he likes to be known - won a sports scholarship to Liberty University after he was named Charlottesville's 'Athlete of the Year' in 1999.
But Matthew, now 32, was forced to leave before he graduated following the allegation that he raped a female student on the university campus in October 2002.

It’s a black on white crime the MSM will totally ignore.
Ive been noticing that when the media refers to this guy they never once mention his race..meanwhile, when talking about Darren Wilson ALL they talk about is his race
History of being excused because you’re an athlete?
Wonder how many more?
Police claim no charges were ever filed due to lack of evidence. Or was it that the school didn’t want the bad publicity, and resolved the issue by throwing him out? Could be the cops didn’t actively pursue the case for some unknown reason. I’d like to hear from the girl he allegedly raped to see if the school had put pressure on her not to pursue the case. Maybe if this POS had been sent to prison back then, Hannah might still be alive. She’s more than likely dead, because there’s no way this creep was going to leave a witness like he did the last time. Makes you wonder where he’s been and what he’s been doing since his college days. You know the sexual assaults didn’t stop during that time. Maybe he’s responsible for the disappearance of other females.
I have a feeling that when the results of his DNA samples come back, we'll learn he raped another Virginia student in 2005 and raped and strangled Morgan Harrington in 2009.
I just have a strong feeling there's going to be a few cold cases that get wrapped up soon. Sadly, I believe the body of Hannah Graham is in a field somewhere.
Probably no evidence he raped her but there was evidence he violated Liberty U's student code of conduct which is why he wasn't charged criminally but still tossed out.
I’m very, very curious to see if he’s done any of those unsolved crimes.

Yeah they be gifting another potent black role model 15 years and counting¿
She made a visit to the local hospital. Medical attention is evidence of assault LEO chose to close their eyes which is very common during that time period in “domestic violence “ cases.
If he was involved in the other cases, the families should sue
32 year olds getting expelled?
Why in the world does Liberty U have a sports sholarship? or sports?
We would've been 20 in 2002.
Why in the world does Liberty U have a sports scholarship? or sports?
Liberty University is the largest Christian University in the world and offers students many diverse academic and recreational opportunities.
ghetto thug scholarships seems like a bad idea
“Sadly, I believe the body of Hannah Graham is in a field somewhere.”
As much as I want to disagree, I can’t. I fear the ending to this story is going to be a tragic one.
This story has already ended tragically.... Hannah is dead.
It’s now a matter of the details revealing themselves.
To generate alumni contributions in large quantities, a school must have intercollegiate sports programs.

When my daughter was in college a white girl in her dorm was raped by a star athlete of color. She was studying in her room when he came to the door, forced his way in, and raped her. When he left the room she called the police and went to the university hospital where the evidence was collected. The counselor the university assigned to her, and the university police, strongly encouraged her not to press charges. She decided to press charges anyway. In the ensuing days she was intimidated by many students of color. Then, mysteriously, the hospital “lost” the rape kit and evidence. The DA immediately advised the girl and her parents he would not press criminal charges. The harassment of the victim by students of color continued until she left the university.
When she withdrew from the university several white female students in the dorm asked to meet with the president of the university to discuss their fear of aggressive male athletes and the university handling of the situation with the student who left. The president refused to see them.
Score 1 for diversity. Score zero for rule of law.
Yep ... that’s why I don’t believe a word they say.
