Fight for Senate Control Down to Five States
Roll Call Politics ^ | September 24, 2014 | Stuart Rothenberg

Posted on 09/24/2014 3:19:57 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

With six weeks to go, the fight for control of the Senate is down to five states, four of them currently held by Democrats.

Republicans must win only two of those contests to guarantee the 51 seats they need to control the Senate for the last two years of Barack Obama’s presidency. And they need to win only one of the Democratic states if they hold the only GOP seat at serious risk.

While things could still change — and national polls continue to show an environment that may produce a substantial GOP wave in the House and Senate — the Senate battle has boiled down to two reliably red states and three swing states.

Thom Tillis hosted Jebbie this week in NC and had to distance himself from Jebbie’s liberalism. Tillis must not really know Jebbie. And I wonder if NC peopled know much about Tillis.

Thom should try to get Mel Tillis to endorse them. That could help.

Rothenberg’s “5 states” are Alaska, North Carolina, Colorado, Iowa and GOP-Held Kansas, where the rat by proxy Orman will caucus with the rats if he wins.

He’s giving us 2 you list, Arkansas and Louisiana (as well as MT, SD, WV and GOP holds in KY and GA).

He’s underplaying Scott Brown’s chances in NH, which are 50/50 now if you ask me.

I also believe he unfairly lumps MN in with hopeless OR and VA. We are underdogs in MN but the chance for victory there is realistic.

“North Carolina - probably”

Disagree.

The Democrat has led the last 7 polls.

I say toss up, leaning slightly to the Democrat.

Also...

I think Georgia - a Republican seat - is at much greater risk than people understand.

Almost 40% of eligible Georgia voters are non-white.

And, the Democrat candidate, Nunn, is the daughter of a well known and highly respected former Senator, Sam Nunn.

If the Georgia Democrat Party can figure out how to get their Black voters to the polls, they can beat the Republican.

If we lose Georgia, we must win 8 Democrat seats to gain a majority.

And the GOP proposes to do just what, exactly, to stop these things you list? Nothing, in fact, their “embrace” of the Tea Party would seem to put them on board with most of the program! No, we don’t need no “stinking badges” to prevent the items you list. “Put not your faith in Princes”. Good advice for the ages.

Thank you. Keep spreading the word. Taking back the Senate in 2014 is an important, but still early battle to win in a much longer war. This is ‘good ground’ (General Buford at Gettysburg) to win.

I understand your concerns.
North Carolina and Georgia both went for Romney in 2012.

A lot of Georgia voters don’t know who Sam Nunn is,
he’s been out of office since 1997.
(He is my 5th cousin twice removed or something crazy like that)

There does not seem to be much enthusiasm here one way or the other...
I don’t see any yard signs or bumper stickers, just an occasional TV ad.

I’ll be happy with whatever the combination is,
as long as it puts Harry Reid on the back bench.

I live in the Fraud State of Illinoistan. I’m sending money weekly to Oberweis to at least make Tricky Dick Durbin work a bit. I’m also sending money to all conservative senate candidates. I’m praying for a Sunami, but will be happy with just a majority. We can work on the Rinos after that.

Gary Peters is overzealous. He threatened a TV station for airing ads featuring a sick woman giving her account of how Obamacare has negatively impacted her treatment options.

More ads of this kind heading down the homestretch will put Peters on the defensive and he might react in a way that turns off voters.

I forgot Michigan, he understates our chances there as well, though I’m worried about that one, he phrases it in a ridiculous way, that Land is “in even worse shape” than Brown, who is in pretty good shape.

Don’t look now, but Q just released a poll showing Gillespie cutting Warner’s lead to 48%-39% in the VA Senate race (with 6% for the Liartarian).

But there are a lot of Losertarians who think otherwise.

Do you think the Gay groups harangue the Environmentalists? Do you think Abortionists give the race baiters a hard time? Do Labor interests insult Feminists over their voting? Why do people on the right hold their fellows in such contempt? I am not real tolerant of creationism, and I think religion is mostly superstition and mythology, but I support the right of Christians to believe what they want to, and I respect their beliefs and I don't call them names. It seems such a shame that some Conservatives hate Libertarians so much.

In 1968 a couple of my college pals and I impulsively drove to Atlanta.

We spent the weekend pursuing girls who did not want to be pursued, not by us anyway.

By Sunday we admitted to abject failure, drove out to the governor’s mansion, and shook hands with Lester Maddox and his wife.

Warner’s been showing ads about Gillespie being a lobbyist for Enron and out of touch with the people. Despite the fact that Warner is the richest man in the Senate and made his fortune as a venture capitalist (how out of touch can you be?)

Gillespie has been showing ads with Warner side by side (B & W, of course) with Obama for the entire ad which assert that Warner is a rubber stamp for Obama’s failed policies.

Unless No. VA turns out big, Gillespie has a slim chance.

It’s just tragic that McConnell slimed himself and the GOP brand in VA so badly or else he might have been in the running against Warner or possibly even as a Presidential contender.

Yes, McDonnell. I always have trouble with that because I think of Christine O’Donnell and know it’s not the same last name as that.

Anyhow, McDonnell really screwed things up in a state that was already trending in the wrong direction. Screwed up Cooch as well, who was a real bedrock conservative.
