Exposing a deep GOP rift on a rancorous immigration issue, Gov. Rick Perry and George P. Bush, the Republican candidate for land commissioner, this weekend defended providing in-state tuition for unauthorized immigrants. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz said he opposes the measure on principle, and state Sen. Dan Patrick, the partys nominee for lieutenant governor, has vowed to repeal it.
In separate appearances at the Texas Tribune Festival at the University of Texas, Perry and Bush expressed views on in-state tuition that were in sync with state Sen. Wendy Davis pledge to veto in a heartbeat any repeal legislation that would cross her desk if she is elected governor. State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, sponsored the in-state-tuition bill.
On Sunday, Perry who in 2001 signed the landmark legislation, making Texas the first state to offer in-state tuition to resident students without legal papers associated himself with Bushs remarks at the festival Friday, saying that, until theres a sensible alternative, the law ought to remain on the books.
Attorney General Greg Abbott, the Republican candidate to succeed Perry as governor, has sought to sidestep the issue. Last year, his campaign issued a statement describing the law as noble in intent but flawed in design, and suggesting it needed to be reformed. He has yet to say how.

Young people who were here by no fault of their own, and I would suggest in every case that decision wasnt made by a 6-year-old were going to the state of Texas so I can go to the University of Texas but economically what was in the best interests of the state of Texas was to give these young people the opportunity to be givers rather than takers, to be a constructive part of this society, and thats what we did, Perry said.
They are failing in their public duty. They are not strong enough to do what’s right for the taxpayer.
We had to pay full tuition for our son to go to college in California. It was a small private college and they only have one rate. It was over $30K a year just for his tuition. Then there was rent, and books, shoes, clothes, food, gas, insurance car, insurance medical, utilities, internet, cell phone, furniture, car payment, etc. I paid it all. I didn’t buy a new car for myself from 1995 to 2011, when all of our kids were out of college. It CAN be done.
If you can’t afford the college you really want, find a cheaper one. Go to your local community college for the first two years! That cuts your college expenses almost in half!
Perry has lost my vote.
AMEN to deportation!
Our property tax on our little house in Texas will be $6,000.00 for next year, I will pay it Dec 31. It MOSTLY goes to schools and we haven’t had a kid in school here since 2002!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Brother's minions never give up, do they!
They should be allowed to go to Texas universities. At 10 times the price! All of the money they pay should go to subsidize American students. But let’s go farther, let’s add a 2% surcharge to all the money being wired in to South America from the US and take that and put it in the same pot.
Since in-state tuition (benefits) have already been granted to felons as a REWARD for their felony, it will now be deemed a “constitutional right” that cannot be taken away. That is always the pathetic argument that is used.
I'm reminded about a governors race in Nebr. some yrs ago. Tom Osborne was leading & most thought he would be the next. However, he came out in favor of this & this is what I think lost it for him. Just a note to you Perry.
When Texas Tribune editor-in-chief and CEO Evan Smith, who was Perrys interlocutor for the hourlong conversation that brought the festival to a close, noted that Perry was booed at the 2011 GOP debate for depicting critics of in-state tuition as heartless, Perry said, that was probably a poor use of the term.
It is certain to be an issue again if Perry presses ahead with a second campaign for president a decision he said he would make sometime next year. This time around, Perry said, I wouldnt say that they were heartless. I would say I hope that I can explain to you why economically in 2001 this was the best thing for the state of Texas to do.
Yep—and illegals who are actually good students already go ahead of white and Asian American students in the line for acceptance and scholarships at most private American colleges anyway.
Gov Perry receives a custom-made serape from Mexican Gov
Enrique Martinez of Coahuila, as a token of appreciation for
Perry's backing the "Texican Dream Act."
PERRY SUCKS-UP LIKE NO MAN BEFORE HIM --- NOT JUST IN-STATE TUITION---ITS WORSE THAN WE THINK: the ignoramusitos are infiltrating the educational system. US history is being scrubbed from curricula.
The WH ding-a-ling's obsession w/ emptying out the Third World into the US is turning US schools into refugeecamps........w/ big plans to inculcate the savage illiterates w/ hate-America, anti-American ideology....IOW reliable Democrat voters.

REFERENCE--Subversive Texas Textbooks---distributed nationwide--- vilify conservative groups;
Breitbart Texas | 09/10/2014 | Merrill Hope / FR Posted by Rusty0604
In 2006, uber-liberal "Texas Rising" stated its mission: "developing an emerging generation of social justice-minded, informed and engaged leaders is essential to the long-term health of our communities and the development of progressive public policy in Texas."
...a sneak peak at the preliminary Social Studies textbook found including distortions, omissions and half- truths all passing for accurate high school US history...
And there's this gem: "The radical right consists of groups that sometimes gather under the flag of militant anticommunism. Often known as reactionaries, they denounce most forms of government regulation, including progressive taxation and restrictions and industry.Examples of political groups on the radical right are the John Birch Society, the National States & Rights party, The Christian Crusade, and the Tea Party movement."
Strangely enough, these cream puff radicals who abhor police power would not hesitate to use government police power to enforce the changes they desire.

THIRD WORLD INFILTRATION College Board exams changed history answers... revisionist historians developed different answers to the question of what Americas story is about. From their perspective, at the heart of our countrys historylike the history of any other powerful nationlies the pursuit of empire, of dominion over others. At its core, say the revisionists, Americas history is about our capacity for self-delusion, our endless attempts to justify raw power grabs with pretty fairy-tales about democracy. ....
NOTE WELL: This terrifying Third World revisionism is straight out of Third World textbooks---emphasizing the T/W effort to undermine US ntl security for the coming armed takeover.
The conniving T/W uses an ancient formula going back to Greco-Roman times---where savages, barbarians and thieves overrun a bountiful country lusting after its power and riches.
REFERENCE--- Some 10 years back, Texas schools started used Mexican textbooks for their backward illiterate Spanish-speaking students. Texas textbooks advocated the Mexican perspective including:
<><> anti-white, anti-capitalist anti-USA viewpoints;
<><> Mexican textbooks falsified US history,
<><> proselytized blood-thirsty La Raza savagery;
<><> using teaching as brainwashing;
<><> inculcating violent separatist, latino supremacy idealogy.
==============================================
REALITY CHECK A primetime network news segment focused on an "impoverished" latino mother who paid big bucks to get her son coached to take the College Boards---but he was so stupid, he still couldn't pass them. So the C/B summarily "changed" the tests so that Pedro could pass using subversive Third World hate-filled US history.
That nicely summarizes why the border will never be secured. All that’s missing is “act of love”.

Gov Perry was so thoughtful---he even planned to build a highway to transport illegals from Mexico into Texas. The Trans-Texas Corridor....a series of highways, rails, and pipelines proposed by Perry to aid in the flow of "traffic" through the state of Texas and to solve many other logistics concerned with the flow of goods....and people.
Rick Perry's Trans Texas Corridor Plan....construction actually began in Mexico.
================================================
REFERENCE The Trans Texas Corridor was the largest engineering project ever proposed for Texas. The corridor would far exceed any public works project in the states history. This statewide network of priority corridors will stretch 4,000 miles and measure up to 1,200 feet wide.
In July of 2005, Governor Perry gave a speech on the merits of private / public partnerships in transportation projects. The discussion revolved around Governor Perry's Trans-Texas Corridor Program and partnerships with .....foreign....... and San-Antonio Construction companies.
The project was later shelved.
Yet hae was and has remained a very strong and vocal proponent for the law.
And that's why he not fit as the GOP standard bearer.
“How about deportation? That’s a pretty sensible alternative to me.”
I second that.
Gov Perry supports the Dim Lt Gov candidate. He's even doubling down on it!
