ith a smile on his face, George Zimmerman spent Saturday afternoon posing for photos, sharing hugs and shaking hands with gun enthusiasts at a firearms expo in Lake Mary..
"It's so odd to me," said Zimmerman, about the celebrity treatment he receives in public. "[But] it is appreciated."
In his first interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Zimmerman described life after his acquittal last year in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The former Neighborhood Watch volunteer shot the unarmed black teen in Sanford on Feb. 26, 2012.
Now life for the 30-year-old is completely different.
He's always moving.
He's in debt.
And he's constantly receiving death threats.
"I just try to be smart where I go," said Zimmerman, who described the gun show at Gander Mountain Academy as a "friendly" event that didn't warrant extra protection.
Zimmerman said he carries a semi-automatic handgun for added safety.
"It's part of life," said Zimmerman, whose Twitter feed is a constant barrage of death threats. "It's unfortunately necessary right now."(continued)

This guy could have moved to North Dakota, gotten a good paying job, started fresh, and have been happy and safe.
Instead he’s still haunting Lake Mary signing autographs.
He has a screw loose.
The kind of self control needed to avert going stark raving mad in a situation like this... is well nigh unto that of a well drilled devotee of the Lord.
I think that evangelists should be trying to encourage Zimmerman. With the right attitude, he could come out of this thing in stunningly good shape at the end.
Want to invite him to take a job in North Dakota or wherever?
He does have family, I understand.
Yeah, and Trayvon Martin Saint Skittles of Purple Drank was just such a great guy, right?
“The kind of self control needed to avert going stark raving mad in a situation like this... is well nigh unto that of a well drilled devotee of the Lord.”
How do we know he hasn’t?
Haven’t heard from him in quite a while.
He is allowed out of the house and a gun show is one of those places I go to for fun and relaxation, and I am sure he felt rather safe and protected there. . .nothing wrong with that.
Zimmerman is turning right redneck.
Oh I’d be tickled to learn that something like this is going on.
It is a spiritual battle writ intense. All this black hatred of him is one giant hunk of Satan bait.
He is not a CCW hero. He was a cowboy, a rent a cop wannabe who got a big head and a puffed up chest when he strapped on his gun. Was the shoot justified? Yes. But his conduct after his exoneration indicate that he is not just a meek and mild citizen who just happened to be jumped by a bad guy.
Yup... it’s probably one of the best guarded places in the country.
Oh come now, he didn’t even shoot at Trayvon till he was about to lose his gun. A proud man would have taken the first opportunity to shoot, not what was just about the last one.
He needs to get as far away from Florida as possible. Texas. North Dakota. Stay away from any liberals.
And if he was a cowboy... there are worse ways to go yeehaw.
Going to gun shows is fine, as long as he does not pre-announce where he will be.
Actually Nebraska might not be a bad spot. (From having hung out there for about two months so far.)
Go someplace like DUmmieland, troll.
I certainly could! Shall we start with Zimmerman's previously scheduled boxing match with rapper DMX?
Yea, that's certainly an avenue to getting on with one's life and maintaining a low profile, isn't it?
Oh you SAY you can, until you start getting the visits from Satan (and don’t kid yourself, the hatred of half of black America led by the Wrong Rev. Wright does just that).
Yawn
So you didn't follow the case? You probably still think that Trayvon had iced tea in his hand and was a choir boy, right? Mr. Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store in his Honda Ridgeline when he saw a suspicious person casing homes in the rain. He was not "on duty" as the captain of the neighborhood watch. I hope and pray that you are never put in a situation where a younger, stronger man is beating your head against the pavement, about to disable or kill you and the only choice you have is to shoot your assailant. Miss Rachel Jeantel's testimony (you've heard of her, right?) sealed the deal.
