Spanking worked for me and my siblings. However if spanking
is the only arrow in your quiver then you have a problem.
If your interactions with your kids involves punishment
for messing up but no praise for doing good then you are
probably not a very good parent.

When children engage in behavior that is dangerous to themselves or others, it should be dealt with immediately with consequences that will be remembered.

Right - you grab the kid and set him down and if they’re old enough to understand what they did you tell them and park them in a corner, or deny or whatever. If they’re too young you still don’t beat them. I like what one poster said: You give them the eye ... Spanking is the adult frustrated answer to a kid acting out.

Dr. Spock and all liberals like him have ruined this country. We have generations now that have no self discipline and have meltdowns if anyone tries to discipline them.

“Spock did not believe in corporal punishment.”
Spock was from San Diego and before he died he came out and said that he was totally wrong!
I doubt the idiot shrinks of this world ever allowed the news to get beyond the local paper.

” You give them the eye “
And they soon laugh at you and carry on as they know “the eye” is backed by nothing more.

Family is NA, and they DID use physical punishments. Shame means nothing to a child having a meltdown in public. They are already acting shamefully. They couldn’t care less.
All this Dr. Spock crap is why we see out of control children everywhere.

Seems another poster brought that up. My folks never touched me re: spankings but when my dad or any other member of the family looked at me I’d stop whatever it was I was doing wrong ... maybe we could start a “Beat A Child Awareness” month - to make parents aware they should beat their kids ...

I spanked both kids once. Then they knew I always had the hammer if I needed it.

“Spankings” are NOT beatings. If you don’t understand the difference, best you not spank.

FREEPED.
Read your Bible, Proverbs 22:15; Proverbs 23:13; Proverbs 29:15; and Revelation 12:5.
These idiots are determined to undermine God's teachings.

Never knew that. I remember one kid a few years younger who was raised according to Dr. Spock. He wound up in plenty of trouble, legal and otherwise. Eventually, he did straighten out, became an auto mechanic with his own business, married, had children and settled down. I’m sure that Dr. Spock caused him more harm than good.

Shame is not a part of modern America...
To: maine-iac7
And a hand should be sufficient - not a switch and NOT a tree branch.
Spanking with a switch only stings momentarily, that's why the Bible instructs parents to use the rod.
The Native Americans didnt use corporal punishment. They used shame. If you misbehaved, you dishonored your parents and the community. To be shamed was something a child tried to avoid at all costs.
Most children easily figure out that shaming or banishing them to their room is nothing to stop them from continuing their wrong behavior.
They can get out of chores, get time to themselves.
They come to see the parent as not serious about getting compliance on the issue at hand, and the pattern will build and continue.
Some children never learn, but most do learn from a switching combined with simple, clear instruction from the parent. After the speedy punishment and forced compliance, the parent then restores the child and the child can move on having learned the lesson. The child sees that the parent has moral standards and is determined to follow them and teach them to the child, without playing mental games; this lesson is priceless.

Alternately, we could have a vocabulary thread for Freepers who lack the language skills to distinguish a spanking from a beating.
Then those Freepers would quit embarrassing the people who know them by displaying their ignorance in a very progressive Democrat fashion.
