I'd urge everyone who believes in zero tolerance for NFL employees caught beating their wives or girlfriends to direct as much attentionor ideally, even more attentionat police officers who assault their partners. Several studies have found that the romantic partners of police officers suffer domestic abuse at rates significantly higher than the general population. And while all partner abuse is unacceptable, it is especially problematic when domestic abusers are literally the people that battered and abused women are supposed to call for help.
If there's any job that domestic abuse should disqualify a person from holding, isn't it the one job that gives you a lethal weapon, trains you to stalk people without their noticing, and relies on your judgment and discretion to protect the abused against domestic abusers?
The opprobrium heaped on the NFL for failing to suspend or terminate domestic abusers, and the virtual absence of similar pressure directed at police departments, leads me to believe that many people don't know the extent of domestic abuse among officers. This is somewhat surprising, since a country shocked by Ray Rice's actions ought to be even more horrified by the most egregious examples of domestic abuse among police officers. Their stories end in death.

Better laugh at yourself. You cannot know it is false without further evidence.
Heck, I laughed because I thought you were joking around. I didn’t know that you were trying to be a jerk.
Look sport, I have been married to the same wonderful woman for over 43 years. I was a very busy crime fighting LEO for 30 of those years. I do have an insight as to what the LEO community looks like from the inside.
If you want a fight, go beat your wife, pee on your neighbors lawn and make damn sure that you hide your dog before the local cops get there.
Now I am laughing AT you...... and I don’t care to waste any further effort on you.
....
I’ve been married to a cop for 40+ years. They’re still a cop when they’re retired. I also worked in the courts. In my experience, when you call the cops on a cop you’re the one that’s going to jail. They protect their own. I never was in that position, but also knew what the outcome would be.
They had a child together, but she had moved on and was dating (and planning to marry) another man. He and his buddies, while on duty, stalked her incessantly. He once pulled a gun on her and then put it to his head in front of their 3 year old daughter. He routinely broke into her home, both while she was there and when she was not. He would drive through the parking lot at work, lurk outside...watching her through the window.
She complained to his supervisors and it did nothing but to escalate the situation. And yes, he was violent towards her....not to the kid as far as I know.
Thankfully, once she got married (and “someone” finally called his wife), it stopped. He had at least 10-20 people in his department participating in this harassment..she went nowhere without being followed...sometimes by two or more of them....and it went on for over two years.
I fought a lot...a whole lot in my life
I survived in hostile environments that necessitated it
I never hit a split tail in my life....but I have spanked kids
I grew up when most my pals had daddies who were vets of one of the WWIIcombat theatres and some....you could just tell.....had killed many men being there
None of them beat their wives and most were softer on the kids....all that blood and death sorta made them less hormone aggressive unless you asked for it...then it was like Peleliu again....but they had to feel threatened
Like Eugene Sledge from Mobile Alabama and fought his way through two years of Pacific island hopping....on the line for months at a time....arguably worst combat any US troop ever endured
Came home with THE STARE and never even bird hunted again.
So....I’m not sure environment does this....
Role models...expectations..... societal pressures.....God.....its the lack of all that......and how culture views women

This rings true to me. My dad wasn’t combat infantry, he was artillery that supported the infantry, but he saw death and destruction up close on a regular basis for the whole war in Europe.
The dad of one of my good friends walked with a limp and a cane courtesy of the Pacific war. I was surrounded by WWII vets growing up and I don’t remember any of them being mean or even quick to anger.
Afraid to be around cops off duty.
Theycan do nearly anything and Not get charged.
Stare into the abyss long enough and you become the abyss.
This has been true and known for decades.
I think a lot of LEOs have a “thing” about being an authority figure. Their personality tends to make them want to order people around, and they do NOT like to be defied. It really outrages them, for their decisions, orders, policies to be defied.
How can that not extend to how they treat their wives and children?
Agreed.
Steroid abuse.
Sadly, the scenario you describe is far too common-—and the just-us department turns a blind eye to it.
Not to mention that they, as a rule, have lower IQs than the general public and abuse steroids more often than the general public.
Bad combination.
“Not to mention that they, as a rule, have lower IQs than the general public -——”
Thank heavens we have jobs for low IQ people like police, firefighters military, and construction workers or they would all be on welfare.
.
It took a while, but yeah, that’s part of it for sure, in many cases.
