While reading the February issue of the Marine Corps Gazette, I skimmed past the “Be Bold” advertisement calling for readers to submit articles that challenge a Marine Corps policy or way of doing business. Immediately a current “hot topic” came to mind, but as usual I quickly discarded it because I have purposely avoided publicly disagreeing with the passionate opinions of many of my female peers and friends. After weeks of contemplation and debate, I am “being bold” and coming clean: I am a female Marine officer and I do not believe women should serve in the infantry.

And then, along comes news that MCRD Parris Island has a new CG. For the first time, the CG is a woman.
She nailed it...even in aircraft maintenance we had problems with females much like she describes.
Couldn’t handle their tool boxes, handle some of the aircraft parts, if even remotely attractive, they were a constant distraction, the “drama”, lost “manpower” due to pregnancies, etc., etc.
Some of the comments below the article speak to how well PC has corrupted our nation...they just can’t handle the truth.

Yes for instance in the navy they took all the shore duty jobs that previously sailors used to get out of the fleet for a couple of years if they had a job that was primarily seagoing. It wasn’t fair then and now it is even worse.
What woman in her right mind would *want* to be in combat? Seeing what the Muslims do to their own women, I wouldn’t want to see what they’d do to our women. I guess they think war is some kind of game. Dulche bellum inexpertis.
When you have hard work to do and a female in the way, you give the female the clipboard.

You Dad's situation reminds me of a scene in Saving Private Ryan.Namely,the scene in which it's realized that several members of the Ryan family have been KIA.The Captain in the scene walks into his CO's office and we see that Colonel standing and clearly having only one arm.That Colonel surely was injured in action and,after being injured,was still serving honorably to the best of his ability.I think your Dad was right to have the attitude he did.
He had always regretted not getting to serve.
I hope his family and friends were successful in their effort to convince him that he had nothing to be ashamed of...he did his very best to serve to the best of his ability,just like that Colonel did.
I am a woman who is very mechanically inclined. In high school my number one job suggestion was auto mechanic. I HATE grease. Forget it. I have done simple stuff on my jeep though and was a machinist. My son inherited the talent from both parents and is a whiz. He’s so cool. Infantry, USMC. I love him so much.

Women have been in combat roles for a long, long time.
When German counter-terroism units hunted the Red Army Faction and the Baader Meinhof Gang, (my recollection is) they were told to shoot the women first as they were considered the most dangerous. Also remember that there were several women among the Beslan school hostage crisis terrorists/murders.
On a personal basis, I performed engineering at a major State women's correction center and talked to corrections officers who knew many of the women there were very dangerous and had demonstrated that by their crimes.
Personally, I don't like the idea of a woman in combat, but historically many women have fought in battles and accounted well of themselves. I think it all depends on the woman, her physical strength, her martial skills, her mental attitude, and her motivation.
You make good points.
Something that comes to mind, there has been quite a few wartime instances when military units have had to make very hard forced marches, sometimes to gain an advantage over the enemies position, sometimes in a fighting retreat, sometimes to prevent yourself from getting outflanked.
No dawdling, the survival of the entire unit can be at stake. In these kinds of moves, the unit cannot slow down, or stop for someone not able to keep up the pace.
If the enemy is outflanking you, he will have you entrapped if you haven’t force marched yourself out of the trap. This is not just infantry, by the way, getting outflanked can happen to just about any kind of outfit.
There are plenty of women who are mechanically “inclined”...there are plenty of instances where it was shown that women in some fields had/have a higher attention to detail than men. Rosie the Riveter comes to mind.
However, there are jobs most women just aren’t “built” to do.

Exactly, all my life I’ve been absolutely delighted to spend time with women, be friends with women, romance them, have sexual relations with them and on and on! Simply put.........I love women!
But, if I am on the battlefield, I don’t want to be worrying about no dang woman! Such a distraction could get me killed! I want to fighting to save my life and my buddies life and kill the enemy. I feel 90+% of heterosexual men would agree.
The argument that Israeli, Kurdish, and various other nations’ women serve in their infantries, therefore American women can serve in ours, is flawed. The Palestinians have vowed to “wipe Israel off the face of the planet” and are constantly causing riots or staging violent attacks in Israel. Israel’s mere existence is always in jeopardy, and in order to ensure its survival, they rely on conscription. Saddam Hussein conducted mass genocide of the Kurds in a campaign known as Al-Anfal. Kurdish women bore arms during Al-Anfal and have remained a Kurdish Peshmerga infantry unit ever since. In order to preserve their existence, Israelis and Kurds understand that they need manpower, professional training, and constant readiness within their infantry. They train women in their infantry to ensure they do not lose in a war of attrition or face another genocide. Israeli and Kurdish infantry women provide necessary manpower to their mission of survival. Its not about equal opportunity for the Israelis and Kurds, it’s about cultural survival—which is why it works. The all-volunteer U.S. military is not at war to defend the Nation’s existence; on the contrary, it has a surplus of manpower, is downsizing its number of servicemembers, and can afford to be exclusive. Again, there is no need to incorporate women into the infantry.
Single mothers Fathers who are too selfish and irresponsible to stay are the scourge of civilization.
“Deadbeat Fathers” should start the sentence, because it’s the mothers who have to raise the children with no money or very little, and the deadbeat father gets to live his life with more women and more children...never supporting anyone properly.

Lol. If you think that today’s single mothers are that way because their men just wouldn’t stay, then I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Feminism taught women that they need a man like a fish needs a bicycle, and spreading their legs for whichever random guy gets their motor running is “empowering” . Ha.
