The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) shot down a Syrian regime fighter jet conducting airstrikes on the group’s stronghold of Raqqa on Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
The Britain-based monitor said: “It is the first aircraft shot down since the regime launched air strikes against the jihadists in July following their declaration of a caliphate in late June.”
Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that the plane was carrying out strikes on the ISIS stronghold of Raqa when it was hit.
It crashed into a house in the Euphrates Valley city, the sole provincial capital entirely out of Syrian government control, causing deaths and injuries on the ground, he added.
A photograph posted on a jihadist Twitter account purported to show the burnt-out wreckage of the plane.
"Allahu Akbar (God is greater), thanks to God we can confirm that a military aircraft has been shot down over Raqa," another account said, congratulating the "lions of the Islamic State."

Yes, 15,000. CIA claimed to recover some, leaving the missing about about 4000 but I doubt that. Our sats caught the launch and hopefully we’ve bagged all the IS within 20 miles of the launch.
It’s possible this could even be true.

It seems to make sense since we provided the Mujahideen with Stinger Missiles in Afghanistan to defeat the Soviets.
Well the same tactic to help ISIS defeat the Russians that are now providing air defense for Syria.
Remember it was the Mujahideen that morphed into Al-Qaeda that morphed into the FSA(Free Syrian Army)/The Rebels that morphed into ISIS/ISIL. It's all the same group. Just a different name.
They all serve under the same Black Flag of Al-Qaeda.

I’ve always wondered which side God is on when there are battles fought between people of the same faith.
Apparently Allah was on the side of ISIS this time.
I never did figure out some of the other battles throughout history, like the 100yrs war, the Protestant wars, revolutions and civil wars. Whose side was God on...the winners? It must be a bit of a bother for God to have to answer prayers from both sides.
The Benghazi Lakers team has shot from the three point mark on this one.
