AP source says Ray Rice video sent to NFL months ago
ABC-13 Houston/AP ^ | 9/10/2014 | Unattributed

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive three months ago, while league officers have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.

The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."

The law enforcement official, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, says he had no further communication with any NFL employee and can't confirm anyone watched the video. The person said they were unauthorized to release the video but shared it unsolicited, because they wanted the NFL to have it before deciding on Rice's punishment.

The NFL has repeatedly said it asked for but could not obtain the video of Rice hitting Janay Palmer - who is now his wife - at an Atlantic City casino in February.

this is crazy.

The first video shows the guy throwing her out of the elevator not even in a humane say. Like an inanimate object.

that’s all anyone needs to know.

anyone knows that when one faints, it just takes about 5 seconds of being horizontal, getting blood to one’s head to revive. That was the explanation for her unconsciousness. If she had fainted, and hadn’t come around, there would be a serious medical reason, warranting his alerting someone with a cell phone or a passerby, securing the elevator door, and awaiting medical help.

Everyone knows that when someone falls you don’t move them without securing their spine in an intelligent manner.

Everyone knows that was a nasty abusive hateful aggressive encounter and reaction.

And if everyone doesn’t know all this, the NFL people certainly do.

It is a lot of BS for the sake of the money and publicity.

I am sick of this disgusting story.

And anyone, including Rush, who talks about this in any way sympathetic to him, is not right.

Gentlemen cannot blame feminism. Establishment feminism is wrong.

And it is always wrong for a gentleman to strike a girl, woman, lady or feminist.

And if the NFL wants to employ ungentlemanly males, that’s their business, and it seems to be so, now.

They’d be better off just admitting it now.

But everyone with a hint of an imagination and a glimmer of life experience and an inkling of humanity and virtue knows that that guy was abusing that woman.

That they didn’t see the tape (and of course they had, with their $billions and connections to all top security as part of their business) is a lie and an excuse not worthy of a smelly kindergarten boy.

It is so beneath us as a culture

The NFL needs to understand they are coming across as a money grubbing deceitful group of people, and I wish Rush would drop it.

Hell yes she’s sticking with him. The cars, homes, vacations, fancy restaurants, shoes, shopping, shoes, sporting events, shoes. She’s finally got her piece of the pie, and someone else ate it.

I think he will get his job back after a year. Not with the ravens, but i think he’ll get a tryout somewhere. The thing is, he had a horrible year last year and appears to be over the hill. So whether he ever gets back on the field is in question.

This stupid story gets way too much attention. I don’t care if Ray Rice did it. His wife doesn’t care either. Why should I?

This dumb story takes so much else off the plate 7 weeks out of an election.

He had to come down easy on Rice so he could be easy on Irsay. It didn’t matter what happened on the tape.

He will get his chance at a job back because the NFL had just announced that the maximum penalty for a first offense was six weeks.

I just wish people would lay off on the wife. She was the one who got beat up. No one knows what goes on in the mind of a domestic violence victim.

I also know that in my state, domestic violence victims would not report the crime, as they would be afraid of losing the main breadwinner of the house. The woman as a result gets doubly punished. Now, the state allows the perpetrator to still work, and support the family while spending the rest of the time in jail.
Maybe the NFL can still allow him to work and support his family, and spend his nights and free time in jail. Isn't he a running back, and the average career length is 3 years? Not much time to make money, and therefore she deserves a lot of that money for the beatings she has suffered.

No

No one should talk about this woman being at fault. It is not healthy

No gentleman should ever hit a woman. That’s it. If we’re talking about jack Bauer smacking a CIA operative because she’s threatening a mission, it’s jus different. She’s an operative first.

That’s not what this is

And the guy is either out of the NFL or the NFL harbors and promotes bad characters. That’s it. One or the other. Up to them. But this, ‘oh we didn’t know’ crap is not ok. They condone this guys behavior and then lie about it wanting their fans to pretend with them

Bad news all of them

The woman can just get financially punished as well, as the thing turns put

Her fault is getting involved with a thug, and defending him

She needs to take the financial consequences and get away from this thug If she doesn’t that’s her problem. It’s still a free country

Your last sentence is contradictory.
If it is a free country, then why should she take the financial consequences?
Make the thug work, and give her the money. She was the one who got beat up.
This is a similar issue for all DV victims. They stay with the man because they could wind up homeless. I have seen it in my own family.

Goodell should’ve been shown the door when he re-opened the entire debate over the Redskin name, allowing mariginal Indian spokesman to dominate the news cycle with which the lefty sports press dutifully complied.

Hate to agree with Olbermann, but Goodell must go.

No it’s not. If she can get him to work and support her, fine.

Freedom does not mean that she gets to make this guy pay.

No thug is going to work, until death do them part, who beats up or hits his wife. If she can get the courts to make him do so, I don’t have a problem with it.

she gets involved with a thug.

It’s a free country, she can get involved with a thug.

she can also get away from him.

If you think freedom means she gets to be involved with a thug AND get him to support her, then that’s your own definition.

She is free to get rid of him and go find a gentleman.

No one is stopping her.

But guys who hit women hit women. She’s free to change him, but it’s not likely that a woman is going to change a man.

Dang I didn’t know about Lampley. The one I was thinking of was less famous. He was beating up a girl in the street outside her apartment in the LA area and another couple jumped in to stop him.

I paid attention the next several days to see how much ESPN would cover one of their own. Or any of the rest of the sports scribbler and babbler pack either. Not a peep.

I only knew of it from being online one night and saw it on a local SoCal website.

The curious thing is she’s doing it with a good chance of becoming a black Nicole Brown Simpson. As long as she was only his fiancee, he could hurt her by just walking out on her. Now that she’s his wife, he can only leave her at considerable cost, a cost that will exponentially escalate if they have any kids. That leaves him, an already violent, dangerous man who is quite well armed with only his superbly conditioned body, in a position where he’ll view brutal violence as the best way to resolve any domestic dispute. The cold cocking is only a small taste of what the lady is going to get.
