Your last sentence is contradictory.
If it is a free country, then why should she take the financial consequences?
Make the thug work, and give her the money. She was the one who got beat up.
This is a similar issue for all DV victims. They stay with the man because they could wind up homeless. I have seen it in my own family.

No it’s not. If she can get him to work and support her, fine.

Freedom does not mean that she gets to make this guy pay.

No thug is going to work, until death do them part, who beats up or hits his wife. If she can get the courts to make him do so, I don’t have a problem with it.

she gets involved with a thug.

It’s a free country, she can get involved with a thug.

she can also get away from him.

If you think freedom means she gets to be involved with a thug AND get him to support her, then that’s your own definition.

She is free to get rid of him and go find a gentleman.

No one is stopping her.

But guys who hit women hit women. She’s free to change him, but it’s not likely that a woman is going to change a man.

Things are a lot different for this woman. She married him after he knocked her out. And that wasn’t the first time he hit her. Also she is a college graduate and times have changed a lot for women in the work force. She obviously has self esteem problems and poor decision skills. I hardly think she is in some kind of trap. Not to mention she has all the evidence now to take him for all his money in divorce court. I will say this, I have never spit on a girlfriend nor have I been spit on by a girlfriend. That should be a deal breaker in any relationship. Never mind the fisticuffs.
