When officers arrived, they made contact with the person, later identified as Joseph Jennings, in the parking lot.

During the encounter, officers with the Ottawa Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff's Office were involved in a shooting.

Jennings was treated at the scene for gunshot wounds and transported to an Ottawa hospital where he later died.

"Why did it take them shooting him 16 times at least for them to bring him down and go and take care of what they needed to take care of?" Jennings' aunt, Brandy Smith said.

Ottawa Police Chief Dennis Butler said officers did what they were trained to do.

Just joking about the beanbags.
Although 16 of them might kill you.

Well, I think he was worried about getting fired. How I remember this is beyond me!

Is it safe to assume that since Michael Brown robbed a convenience store and then attacked the cop that he was mentally deranged? f so shouldn’t we just ignore Brown just like they ignored this kid in Ottowa?

We need to make sure we can shoot them before they can commit suicide!!

Isn’t that, and shooting dogs, what cops do these days?

This Ottawa would be a small town SW of Kansas City, MO, on the Kansas side of the state line, not Canada.

But, but..."The cop yelled out, 'bag him,' and then three shots were fired with the bags. I just don't know how many shots were fired. They shot him in the back of the leg and the back of the shoulder," Smith said.

I'm still confused. Three bags + 13 bullets?

How many cops? It doesn’t take long to pop some bullets and if there are a few cops, it would work out to be only a couple of bullets per cop.

I'm confused.

Me too. The article said cops were told that the man had a gun. But there is no mention in the article if that was true. Did he have a gun or not? And if so, was he pointing it at anyone? Did he fire any shots? As you said, it's more garbage journalism.

No, he was just an SOB/Holder's Person with arrogantly bad attitude that picked the wrong day to display it.

This kid might have been looking to get shot. There's a line in the story about the police notified an a guy with a gun.

Perhaps much like that Jewish student in Brooklyn a few years back that looked to provoke getting killed by police because of his gambling debts, although for completely different reasons.

The article is full of holes about the how, what, and why.

From another source:

But by then it was too late. Smith told The Star that her nephew made gestures that looked like he was reaching for a gun — and the shooting began.

Link

So no visual on the weapon, a gesture that might or might not have been reaching for a weapon, and then blam. Least all the officers made it home safe.

This is not Canada. The shooting occurred in KS. The kid was suicidal, on a drug overdose (60 pills) at the time of the shooting. The kid committed suicide by cop.

The new standard apparently is not about the how, what and why. It is simply about how many times someone is shot regardless of what he did.
