Police in Texas have admitted they were wrong to draw their guns on a mother of four when they pulled over the family car early this month, but they won't apologize.
Kametra Barbour was told to exit her vehicle and she was handcuffed at gunpoint as her children watched from the backseat, dashcam footage shows.
The police only lowered their weapons after her six-year-old son got out of the car with his hands up, asking the officers, "Are we going to jail?"
A child is heard crying and screaming on the footage, as an officer tells her, "Stop crying. It's OK. It's OK. Everything's fine now."
ABC News reports the officers were responding after reports of four black men waving a gun out of a beige or tan-coloured Toyota. Barbour was driving a burgundy Nissan Maxima.
The police department defended the traffic stop as appropriate.
1. A camera on the cop car helps all parties involved.
2. When you obey the cops, and TRULY put your hands up, you won't get shot.
More observations.
Beige is nowhere near burgundy.
Men and women are not the same and especially with young children. A trained LEO should be able to tell the difference.
An apology should be given...immediately.
Exactly right. If owners didn't stop at Sit Stay and Shake, and covered Paws-UP!, the lives of many a dog would be saved.
A third observation: To be a cop in Texas you must be illiterate and color blind to confuse a beige Toyota with a burgundy Nissan.
How about this ... a front and rear dash cam in personel cars help protect you from out of control cops.
These cops got the color of the car wrong and mistake 6 year olds for “men”.
I think they need to go back for some more training in observation.

Panicky, overzealous, color-blind... ...AND they know nothing about cars.
Just what I want in the police who patrol my neighborhood.
They were probably assuming the eyewitness report was wrong. A reasonable assumption.
Still, they should be able to tell the difference between 4 men in a car and 1 woman and kids in a car.
Some more observations:
1. Much of the action takes place out of view of the camera. There should be full coverage of any interaction with the suspect.
2. The taxpayers will probably be paying a settlement for therapy for the kids for years to come.
3. This is another incident that will be used to inflame blacks because the white cops can’t do a proper vehicle ID.
I really felt sorry for that woman. She and her children were terrified and humiliated for no other reason than foolish police work.

Judas effing priest
although I did hear the cops apologize and thank God the idiots didn’t shoot anyone
Idiot LAPD cops thought that a 60-something Mexican woman delivering newspapers and her adult daughter looked like a thirty-something, bald-headed black guy, Christopher Dornier.
And their vehicle didn’t match the make, model or color of the suspect’s. Yet, the idiot cops weren’t fired, and the taxpayers were stuck with a $4 million + payout to the victims.
and the idiot cops lied and said her plate came up

There is a Mexican that would beg to differ with you, but he can’t. He is dead. He had his hands up.
Don’t get me started. Most qualify.
I’m still looking for someone who can tell me why four different state / local LEO gangs are needed.... Texas HP, County Sheriff, City Cops, County Constables... and they all work the same areas all the time. The County Constables are mostly career donut munchers.
Staying clear of all of these all the time is a full time occupation on the roads.
Still, I would not want their job but a little discretion in executing it seems to be called for. They treat everyone like John Dillinger even for an expired safety sticker stop. There is just no need for two HP to come up along both sides of the pickup with guns drawn for a traffic stop with no hesitation to pull over and no other probable cause. No, there was no other probable cause, I asked.
I don’t trust cops at all and what a shame that one should not.
