Authorities release recordings of death that came amid extreme tension in nearby Ferguson over Michael Brown killing
Police is St. Louis Missouri have released video and audio recordings of the shooting on Tuesday of Kajieme Powell, a 25-year-old man described as "behaving erratically" and carrying a knife when officers arrived on the scene.
One video, taken by a witness with a phone camera, shows officers opening fire repeatedly within 15 seconds of arriving at the scene. 12 shots are fired in rapid succession.

Well anyone with common sense can see that this was a case of suicide by cop. Like most on FR. I am also not very tolerant of liberal points of view. Cannot believe you would side with the crazy thugs in this case. WTF?
See #100.
Perp intended to kill a cop. In broad daylight. Facing two trained cops armed to the teeth.
Time? to do what? run away from someone who may very well be faster? stand there and get sliced in 2 seconds flat? call for backup, minutes away?
Position? where? stand on an open sidewalk? cower behind the car, as he walks around it?
Backup? backup arrived later in the video, well after _someone_ was going to die.
Authority? did the perp’s behavior give the slightest indication of submission or respect to their authority?
They had situational awareness. Shoot if you have to shoot. They shot.
Heh. I’ve been contemplating putting it on chicken wings.
Seriously?
“Videos are available at the URL.”
Not any more. YouTube pulled it.
BTW: replacing “www.youtube.com” with “www.ssyoutube.com” lets you download the video. ;-)
Your question has been well-answered and -discussed in this thread.
Seems some people just don’t get it.

- shooting is no problemo for me -
Wow.
By definition, "cooler heads" do not prevail in the "heat of the moment." It's contradictory...your life is in danger, fine motor skills and aim go out the window...and the fact the victim had mental issues made him more, not less dangerous.
Officer Darren Wilson had no problem doing this. At least four shots to the arm.
Do you have any source for your contention that Officer Wilson was actually aiming at the arms of his attacker, and not center mass?
One more question...does the phrase "Monday Morning Quarterback" mean anything to you?
Is your "experience" with this as anything other than a spectator, and/'or as a consumer of TV Westerns?
First watching it, I noticed that the camera guy (and other observers) were directly in the line of fire. Later I noticed that the perp actually looked back toward the bystanders, and as though he saw the looming danger immediately moved to the side and about 90 degrees around the officers - as though KNOWING he would be shot, acting as if to direct the danger away from innocents.
Looking like straight-up “suicide by cop”, right down to making sure nobody else got hurt in the process.

- I let them run way back to their vehicle - they never showed up again - Oh - I never miss -
Everyone knew who my older brother and I were and who the bunch that we hunted with on our own property
The police chief and sheriff told us what to do - “You need to do what you know you need to do . . .”
I didn’t say they shouldn’t have shot, or endangered themselves. I said they had a lot more options than they used. They just went straight to the final solution. Yeah, it worked. But is that why they’re out there - to go for summary executions whenever possible? Then what’s all the rest of their crisis intervention and non-lethal training for? A gag? They can’t freaking back up? They can’t talk? Just empty the magazine, file the report, and go to lunch?
One more thing - believe it or not, just because someone seems to be trying to kill a cop, does not give the cop the right to kill him back. We have what’s called a legal system. The job of the cop is to defend himself and make an arrest - not do roaming summary executions. Its a subtle difference worth thinking about. Stopping the that is one thing. Dumping bullets into a downed man to make sure he’s dead, and then ludicrously handcuffing the corpse for the cameras is something completely different.
You're way out of line and I've reported you for abuse.
I just love your standards of evidence. Can I use them at your trial?
I am also not very tolerant of liberal points of view.
You call protection of the unalienable right to due process of law a "liberal point of view"? Liberals hate the Fifth Amendment.
Cannot believe you would side with the crazy thugs in this case.
I'm not. If the idiot had rushed the cop, his buddy could have dropped him in less than a half-second. One would think they were trained to keep the lead guy out of the line of fire from the second; if not, the trainers are incompetent. At the distance at which the perp was shot, there was no good cause for the lead to shoot given the backup. If the cop had been alone, that would have changed the risk v. rights picture considerably and I would have said he would be justified at the first gesture of attack, and no, failure to comply should not carry a death sentence. Given the backup, the lead guy should have done what he could to get the space cadet to surrender first, giving him as much room as possible to let him blow off steam and come to his senses.
The police exist as professional risk-takers employed to secure rights, not to act as judge, jury, and executioner just because of how they feel. It's why we have rules of engagement in war, albeit those Zero has employed are an abomination. So if this is how they are going to behave, I think we'd be better off without them and let the people arm and defend themselves taking their own risks.
You are a good guy. But you are talking without expertise here. Bullets take time to take effect. You said:
“If the idiot had rushed the cop, his buddy could have dropped him in less than a half-second.”
People shot, even in the heart, often take 5-10 seconds to go down. In that time, they can kill you, which is why you keep shooting. A gun is not a phaser.
Central nervous system hits, such as to the brain stem or upper spine are usually, but not always a near instant stop. They are also very difficult to make.
Ask any big game hunter how far a deer will run after it has been shot in the heart. They often run a hundred yards before falling over. In a human, a similar sized animal, that equates to 5-10 second so life.
In this case, it appears about 2 seconds from the first shot until the man falls down, after multiple shots.
True, he was only walking, but there are cases where police failed to fire as a man with a knife walked up to them, and then killed them before they reacted, while waiting for a more overt act.
As for “suicide by cop”, what else would you call it when the man says repeatedly “Shoot Me!” and refuses to obey commands, while approaching the police with a weapon in his hand?
Save your liberaltarian rant for someone else. If you cannot see this shooting as justified then it must be due to the fact that your head is firmly stuck up your ass. Even the scumbag thugs are not protesting this. You must be on their side with mike brown as well.
They got out of the car, and the guy immediately came at them with a drawn knife, undeterred by drawn guns. They had no time for alternatives.
The goal is not to wound or kill or anything other than STOP THE THREAT.
...everybody keeps saying that...the threat is stopped when the perp is either killed or wounded by the ammo you’ve discharged...is there way to stop the threat when a fired gun is involved other than shooting to wound or kill...?
