Teachers union backs Sharpton’s planned anti-police rally

The teachers union is pitting its members against cops — by sponsoring and promoting the Rev. Al Sharpton’s anti-police rally in Staten Island next week, The Post has learned.

The United Federation of Teachers sent an “action alert” e-mail that even promised free transportation to Sharpton’s Aug. 23 demonstration that is billed as a march for justice for “victims of police brutality.”

Some teachers were furious that the union would take such a prominent role in the event.

“What a disgrace. What is going on with the leadership of the UFT thinking it’s OK to protest against rank-and-file cops?” asked one teacher. “Would we want cops protesting in front our schools over low test scores?”

The union is one of four sponsors of the rally, which will feature the family of Eric Garner — a 43-year-old who died last month after an NYPD chokehold during an arrest for selling loose cigarettes....

You got that right. I sure as heck did NOT vote for this gutter trash. In the past, he was a SHOP teacher. And, he carried on an extramarital affair with a married guidance counselor.

He also "negotiated" the worst contract ever done with the city that screws teachers over six ways to Sunday. The so-called "raise" is stretched out to 2020 and doesn't even keep up with the cost of living. If you die, are terminated, retire---you don't get the retro money you already earned from years past. You have to stick around til 2020 for that. Basically, it's giving NYC a gigantic free loan on our backs. Six years of interest which should be in OUR bank accounts, not that of NYC. This horrific contract also failed to address previous givebacks AND singled out the group of teachers displaced because their schools closed, for vastly inferior treatment and loss of their due process rights.

If all this isn't enough, he also supports Commie Core. Nuff said!

Please tell me--what's to like about this venal thug who has taken our union straight into the gutter?

Perhaps if the police were not so much anti business... Or maybe promoting another way of protesting...

@AlleyF : Police aren’t responding to the looting because of concern that taking action would “further inflame” the situation.

My take is that looting/pillaging is a “better outlet” for the anger than attacking police, so they are allowing it.

Gleeaikin---check your map. Staten Island IS one of the 5 boroughs that comprise NYC. Only a bridge away from Newark or Brooklyn, and a ferry away from Manhattan.

All in all they’re just another brick in the wall.

At the bottom of that flyer, is the contact person. Kirsten Foy. He also ran for City Council Dist 36....as a Dem/Working Party candidate. Here’s a link to all of his “creds”....

My parents both worked for NYC back in the bad old days. I think my dad got paid back money for years after he died.

Not surprising to learn he was a shop teacher he certainly eschews the scholarly persona.

LOL you’ll like this- I’m typing on my phone and I can’t get his name down because my bossy auto-correct keeps changing it to “mildew”.

LOL! A lot of my colleagues refer to him as "Mildew", "Nullgrew", and "Moldgrew".

Whatever you call him, keep a can of Lysol nearby. You'll need it.

I grew up 2 miles from NYC in Jersey. I have always had the sense that Staten Island was psychologically isolate from both places.

Teachers union backs Sharpton’s planned anti-police rally

There should be counter-protesters in an Anti-"teacher" rally.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the mayor was one of the sponsors.

It would be awesome if the entire police force resigned en masse
