Iraqi Yazidis stranded on isolated mountaintop begin to die of thirst

Stranded on a barren mountaintop, thousands of minority Iraqis are faced with a bleak choice: descend and risk slaughter at the hands of the encircled Sunni extremists or sit tight and risk dying of thirst.

Humanitarian agencies said Tuesday that between 10,000 and 40,000 civilians remain trapped on Mount Sinjar since being driven out of surrounding villages and the town of Sinjar two days earlier. But the mountain that had looked like a refuge is becoming a graveyard for their children.

Unable to dig deep into the rocky mountainside, displaced families said they have buried young and elderly victims of the harsh conditions in shallow graves, their bodies covered with stones. Iraqi government planes attempted to airdrop bottled water to the mountain on Monday night but reached few of those marooned.

[...]

Most of those who fled Sinjar are from the minority Yazidi sect, which melds parts of ancient Zoroastrianism with Christianity and Islam. They are considered by the al-Qaeda-inspired Islamic State to be devil worshippers and apostates.

The dramatic advance of the extremist Sunni fighters has torn the ethnic and religious fabric of the country, with Christians and Shiites also uprooted from cities and towns. Advertisement

The Islamic State’s takeover of Sinjar, the first major setback for Kurdish forces protecting the country’s north, sent about 200,000 people fleeing, according to the United Nations. Some 147,000 have arrived in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region, flooding refugee camps.

Obama did promise fundamental change, and he is delivering in spades.

Have not seen anything like this since Clinton brought us Rwanda and Mogadishu.

I dont suppose it would be too difficult to airdrop these poor people supplies, since I do not believe ISIS has very sophisticated ground to air capability.

Assuming Obama has the will to help them, of course.

All those Muslims countries and leaders are going to allow ISIS to steal their territory and cut off their wealth and then chop off their heads too?

Why isn’t something really being done about this?

The Washington ComPost is not supposed to be worried about 40,000 Christians being murdered by Musloids. They need to keep on message and decry Israel for shooting back at Hamas and collaterally killing a few hundred human shields.

The UN is too busy figuring out how to rescue Hamas.

The UN is pretty good at fixing NYC parking tickets, anything that requires taking a stand is not going to happen.

And the world ignores it.

The world only cares when Jews or Americans hurt anybody, for any reason.

That would be a rather large (and entirely gratuitous) assumption.

Of course, if it were reversed--if it were a (very rare) instance of Christians murdering Muslims--President Obama would (presumably) act. Quickly and decisively.

More consequences of BO’s unconditional timetable to boogie out. It is too bad the left can’t suffer the consequences which they created.

Who will remember the Yazidis? Kinda like who remembers the Armenians. I see a world in Turmoil, and all our Media sees is gay rights, same sex marriages, paid abortions, and wars against women? What are they thinking? WTF are they doing arming the radical terrorists and ignoring the good people? When all that crap reaches here, it will be too late to do anything. We are as a nation crumbling slowly, its time for strong leadership, not golf, not taking another vacation, not being on the job for 6 hours, or using your time for fund raising. Here is where we show the world that we still care about those who fall to tyranny. Its a case of $#!t or get off the pot. Fast action is needed, a decision can be made in less that 3 holes of golf. Agrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh, the most inept leadership in our country’s history continues.
