The United States' Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, has emphatically rejected the authenticity of an audio tape released Tuesday night, said to be a leaked recording of a conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Barack Obama, in which the US President reportedly sought to aggressively push an unfavorable ceasefire on Israel.

"Have seen reports of an alleged Obama-Netanyahu transcript; neither reports nor alleged transcript bear any resemblance to reality," Ambassador Shapiro posted on his official Twitter account.

"Shocking and disappointing someone would sink to misrepresenting a private convo between POTUS and PM in fabrications to Israeli press," he added in another.

These reports say that a “tape” or “recording” was released. Where can this recording be heard? All I’ve seen are transcripts. If there was a recording leaked, it would be very interesting and bad for the side that leaked it. Who is bugging the President’s conversations? Or the PMs?

Since it's an audio tape I'm thinking it's legit. Yes, they can be faked but it sounds like crap Obama would say. He has never been a friend of Israel and always supported muslims.

I would actually read it the other way - this would be a left-wing sting to make PMI look bad. As the “conversation” indicates, Israel is getting pressure in the streets in Europe and this leak would be Obama’s way of show solidarity - sort of Obamas way of saying “the US congress and Americans strongly support Israel, but I don’t! So just letting you know... I’m with you!” Reminiscent of his “if the winds shift” comment.
