Christian Bakery That Refused Gay Wedding Cakes Now Bakes Ex-Gay Cakes

Sweet Cakes by Melissa, a Christian-owned bakery, closed its doors earlier this year after its owners Aaron and Melissa Klein were found guilty of violating gay people's rights by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.

The Kleins refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple in 2013, which resulted in the complaint against them.

However, the bakery, now called "Sweet Cakes," continues to exist as an online business.

According to The Advocate, the bakery recently posted a picture on its Facebook page of some goods that it recently made for the Restored Hope Network, an ex-gay organization, and added the caption “Cakes for Restored Hope Network. What a wonderful ministry!”

The Restored Hope Network is run by a self-identified “ex-lesbian” Anne Paulk, whose ex-husband John Paulk founded the ex-gay ministry Exodus International. However, John admitted earlier this year that he is still gay and that reparative ex-gay therapy doesn't work, noted Newsweek.

Anne continues to claim that gay people can be changed into straight people, and recently posted on the Restored Hope Network Facebook page:

Honestly, I say that any government (state or federal) that encourages men to have sex with other men and does not allow those with unwanted same-sex attraction to receive talk therapy is a willing partner to their death.

While Sweet Cakes still does not make cakes for gay people based on its deeply-held Christian religious beliefs, Willamette Week reported last year that the bakery was "willing to provide baked goods for celebrations of divorces, unmarried parents, stem-cell research, non-kosher barbecues and pagan solstice parties."

if homo ‘marriage’ is illegal in CO...

then isn’t CO state forcing the company to be an accomplice to breaking the law?

It’s not illegal for two (or more) people to hold a ceremony, declare themselves “married,” and have a party. The law simply didn’t require anyone else to recognize the ersatz-marriage.

God bless them for standing on His truth.

Read the last line of the article. A cake to “celebrate” stem-cell research?

I think it meant “unwilling” to do those.

I bought some cookies from them online about half a year ago. Kind of expensive (shipping costs will do that), but pretty good. Time to order some more.

What is gay ?

Sex ?

Or love ?

We have a falsely built a culture that equates lust/sex for love.

Sex is easy for those that really need to be accepted.

Love is a wholly different story.

Sex is can be had on virtually any website or corner.

Our modern culture has no room for love. They don’t think love is even possible.

Personally, I don’t just ever have sex, I make love.

There is a difference.

Could be. “Unmarried parents” simply means “babies,” to which most Christians don’t object, and Midsummer parties don’t have to be pagan ... Tolkien fans sometimes celebrate Midsummer.

We had a party ourselves one year, with chiles rellenos, among other fine food. A few neighbors came over, and we let the kids play outside until it got dark.

Um, crap is still crap. I applaud them for their stance on gay marriage byt the rest of that stuff listed above is pretty anti-Christian, too.

It seems like “gay” is whatever the person using the word wants it to be. This man’s saying therapy “doesn’t work” is like an alcoholic’s saying AA “doesn’t work.”

It simply means that individual ended up continuing or resuming the destructive behavior, in spite of having some wish to give it up.

Ah yes, the old "narrowly interpret your enemies' moral code in order to demand strict adherence to the imposed definitions."

Long ago I became fed up with liars and manipulators who were constantly looking for ways that I didn't conform to their definition of my standards of conduct.

Besides, if these divorces were caused by some self-absorbed spouse "coming out as gay", then what's not to celebrate, Willamette Week?

He might not want to overcome it. That might be his problem. You can’t change unless you’re willing to do so.

You can’t change unless you’re willing to do so.

Exactly. And sometimes it takes several times before you want to change a destructive behavior badly enough to really do it. People often try to give up smoking more than once before they succeed (if they ever do). Many Weight Watchers members have joined more than once before they were ready to commit to working the program.

It’s an excuse for a weakness that is desperate for acceptance.

The weakness is sex, not love or any connection.

He can’t find someone that loves him, but can find any number of sex partners that makes him feel accepted.

Our liberal PC culture is attempting to make sexual desires, whether gay or straight, into a normal expression of what a lasting relationship needs.

It’s pure evil.
