Second chance? Perry in Iowa again courting voters
Quad City Times ^ | 7/19/2014 | CATHERINE LUCEY

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is visiting Iowa for the fourth time in eight months, hoping for a second chance to win over Republican voters who delivered him a stinging caucus loss when he ran for president two years ago.

Perry, 64, hasn't said if he plans to run again in 2016. But he's clearly considering it and is meeting Saturday and Sunday with veterans and conservative activists in the northern Iowa communities of Algona and Clear Lake.

Perry has been raising funds for GOP candidates and seeking advice from political insiders since November. He is signaling he's committed to the grassroots politicking that Iowa's Republican faithful expect and that many felt he didn't prioritize when he ran two years ago...

Perry's last presidential campaign began with great promise but quickly faltered. He parachuted into the race relatively late, in August 2011, but quickly went from being a front-runner to an also-ran because of a series of gaffes and poor debate performances — most notably his "oops" moment, when he could only list two of the three federal agencies he said he would close if elected president.

Perry aides have said he simply wasn't prepared when he entered the last presidential race, which was already well underway. They blamed his poor debate showings on Perry's busy schedule — he was very busy wrapping up a Texas legislative session — and pain medication he was taking following recent back surgery.

After finishing fifth in the Iowa caucus and sixth in New Hampshire's primary, Perry quit the race...

Several other prominent Republicans are also testing Iowa's political waters, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who visited the state Thursday, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum...

"Hillary Clinton was a 'great secretary of state". ~ Texas Governor Rick Perry

We can do better than this. Far better.

I just don’t think normal, intelligent men (forget the women - they all belong in Bedlam!) want to run for president. Or, if they do, they don’t have the necessary lack of shame to win!

Cruz is a very good political person for the USA but he does have some heavy baggage. First off for me is that his wife is a governing member of the ‘Council on Foreign Relations’ and a board member of on of Wall Streets biggest finance companies. These companies are the same ones that wanted Reagan to be on a lease so the Bushes could be in the mix. This is a Kissinger organization with an international direction. Secondly for me Cruz has to prove that the words in the Constitution for the eligibility of POTUSA do not prohibit or stand against his being born in Canada and living there as a youth awhile his father was a Cuban citizen. I don’t take that citizen birth derives solely from the mother.

Nice list.

Thanks.

I just realized that I need to update that list with his actions that he has done post 2010.

You might want to loosen up your tin-foil hat. It's a mite too tight bud!

Something wrong here/going on. I did give my concerns about Cruz Running for POTUSA but it comes back you said what I said. Nevertheless, I stand by what I wrote and I don’t wear a tinfoil hat or blinders. It is arrogant presumptuousness to imply such.

Well some of us can do better. Others will run to the polls throwing panties and fainting at the sight of Gov. Goodhair. And that’s just the guys.

Liberals can’t wait to vote for this fraud. Anything...ANYTHING but vote for a conservative. Two years out from the election and liberals on FR are already drooling to vote for this guy. He has honed the bow wow for what? 3 weeks on the invasion now? And they just pretend history started today.

We really need our own country away from these morons. We can call it America and use the old BOR/Constitution/Declaration.

Yes, I think we have all encountered a few of those. Nevermind that the man is as much a RINO as a Republican could be, he has good hair.

Remember how the Perry threads were filled with pictures of the dreamy governor last time around? How shallow must one be to overlook a candidate's far-left leanings in favor of his appearance? To get that answer one needs look no further than the Perry faithful.

I’m sure those glasses are the result of a long heated discussion among Perry’s consultants. Probably the result of polling data showing Perry is not considered bright by a chunk of voters. I bet the argument pro and con would have been fascinating. Might still be going on.

I am thinking the same thing

Perry aides said he flopped last time b/c he simply wasn't prepared when he entered the race....they blamed his poor debate showings on Perry's busy schedule.......

Prez wannabe Perry unfortunately used his down-home Texas MO to run as a prez candidate.

And one reason why he's dropping out of the governorship is that trusting Texans were hopping mad to learn that Perry had secretly given illegals in-state tuition....and didn't bother to tell Texas taxpayers about it.

Perry failed to discern that nationwide voters were listening intently---and were focused like a laser on his positions.

Then in the debate he sneered at Americans----calling us "heartless" b/c we did not share his views.

Perry is poster boy for the old political adage----"it's not whether the candidate is likeable to voters....it's whether the candidate himself appears to like voters."

And as a fan of the American Revolution, he offended me by referring to it as something that had happened “in the 16th Century.”

I’m a fan of The Alamo and I get those dates right!

The Perry faithful to this day claim his poor performance in the last election was due to his taking pain medication after having had back surgery.

Was he still on drugs when he said Hillary was a "great Secretary of State"?

The man is an embarrassment and all conservatives should do everything they can to see he never gets near the White House.
