Shooter's Parents Sped to Try to Stop Him
Newser ^ | May 26, 2014 | Rob Quinn

"When Elliot Rodger's parents realized just how dangerous their disturbed son was, they made a desperate attempt to try to stop him. They received a copy of his 141-page manifesto and saw a YouTube video outlining his plans for his "Day of Retribution" on Friday night and called 911 before rushing to Santa Barbara in separate cars, a family friend tells the New York Daily News. They heard about the shooting spree while they were on their way. "They were hoping against hope," the friend says. "They are in inconceivable pain."

(snip)

"He had been in therapy since childhood, but turned his back on mental health care when he turned 18. He had no criminal history, never explicitly threatened others, and even when his worried parents requested police check on him, deputies found no reason to place him in an involuntary psychiatric hold."

“More like terrible values about humans. The first three victims were young men.”

Victims of the Entitlement War (this freak felt society owed him blonde girlfriends to amuse him); RIP.

The thing that’s throwing me at the moment is this story of becoming aware of his final manifesto, calling 911, and frantically driving to Santa Barbara, then hearing about the violence on the way, but not knowing their kid was involved. Whereupon, they did what?

Santa Barbara’s an hour and a half north of the SF valley, which makes it kind of likely that if they actually made the call, it was during the time the incident was taking place.

And I’m confused about why you’d start to drive up there to prevent a mass murder, hear that there was one, and not know that your kid was involved.

Maybe it all makes sense when you diagram it... at the moment I’m having trouble grasping how it played out.

Logical conclusions require active thought to reach. the 1963 Communist goals dod wonders for helping to install teachers into academia that were opposed to logic cources, precicely because they wanted to raise a population that did not think too far ahead.

Because if one is allowed...yes, ‘allowed’ to think things through, they come to non liberal conclusions about a lot of things. So people stopped receiving an education that would give them the tools to question, assess and logically evaluate scenarios.

All of this played out in the open. People that tried stopping it were maimed in the press as whack jobs and bible thumping fanatics who hated science and ‘wanted to keep people stupid’.

Project much? Yea, they did. and by the time anyone made any headway, they were entrenched and the population auditioning for Aristocracy.

“They are in inconceivable pain.”

Did this kid work? Where’d he get the BMW and the guns? They didn’t think there was a problem until he was issuing manifestos?

Instead of therapy they should have tried parenting.

Absolutely; it is no accident that Mexico’s president today has to battle with their teachers’ unions to try to move his country ahead. We are saddled with the same party organs, and they own the Democratic Party.

> Instead of therapy they should have tried parenting.

There are some mental and emotional pathologies for which “parenting” does not work.

In the olden days, such people were confined to sanitoriums.

Today they are medicated. Medication works as long as they are faithful to take it. However, experience has also shown me that, for some reason, many folks who need medication to cope with their mental illness are not faithful to the prescribed regimen.

Sounds like another made up Hollywood story to me, trying to make both parents look like heroes in a CYA piece. If they had such concerns, why not pick up a phone?

Blame the guns.

His father was blaming the NRA and guns, as was the MSM, IGNORING the fact that his son stabbed three people.

I've often said if you took two Roman short swords into a crowded room of innocents with evil intent you could do some terrible, terrible things and no one would be able to stop you. And swords don't run our of ammunition or have to be reloaded.

You are right. I had to get to FR to find some common sense. Sad and tragic.

“”I’d like more details about this latest call from the parents. It’d be interesting to know exactly what they conveyed to law enforcement.””

Me too. Why has the Santa Barbara Sheriff said nothing about a 911 call from his parents the evening of the murders? Did they really make the call? Or are they just saying they made the call to cover their behinds?

The dad and stepmom spent this kid’s entire life pushing him off on others. Shrinks, schools, police etc. If they feared they had a homicidal maniac on their hands why not take away the BMW and everything else they spoiled him with? At the very least he wouldn’t have been able to plan out his spree or drive around killing people without daddy’s Beemer. These parents were worthless their crazy kid was just an inconvenience to them. And still is. They lawyered up the second this went down and have been selfishly trying to justify themselves ever since

Taking the meds doesn’t cure them. It makes them “pass for normal” until they ultimately flip out killing themselves/others.

The crinminally insane have more rights than the citizens do. The basic human right of self-defense is being denied Americans so that we “don’t have to fear” being shot by chemically imbalanced nutjobs. Of course, they can still legally buy an SUV, steak knife, or other murder implement as this lad did.
