I agree with you on the TRUE pathologies that require treatment and therapy. With that said, many societal ills in our culture are due to lack of parenting and the breakdown of family values, also the chemical solution we so heartily embrace in the U.S.

WE cannot transfer our responsibilities for raising our children to psychiatrists and chemists. I am generalizing without evidence to the contrary, but a troubled kid, who’s been in therapy for years is allowed to stop therapy by his choice?

OK then tell me how this young man was getting along. Let’s see, had a BMW, was living in Santa Barbara, had money for guns, internet access and presumably the luxuries of modern life, how? Was he an actor, lawyer, brain surgeon, or was he subsidized by mom and dad.

Occam’s razor, coldly I will say without real evidence, his parents probably were supporting him and as long as he was out of sight out of mind, all is good Great guidance there. OK flame away

The father is a creature of the Hollyweird set. Lawyer? More likely some on call PR type who knows how to frame these situations. Besides the NRA they are now trying to off load this tragedy on the SBSO, hardly a bastion of gun rights.

So, they left there snake pit kid off in Santa Barbara on his own devices after having showered him with money and gifts his entire life. I saw one of those videos, nothing but a fairy boy...who the hell would want to go out with that egotistical weed. Too bad he did not take the “heroes” way out and just off himself.

In the early 80s I tried to relo to Santa Barbara, loved the area. Glad it did not work out.

Did none of these over-paid therapists ever tell the parents to stop giving this psychotic offspring lavish gifts? Make him actually work for something?

They certainly had the right and the obligation to have him committed to a mental institution when years of therapy obviously did not make him function better in society.

It is not that simple and there are many psycho young men who have their wires crossed.

Last I heard, BWMs are not cheap.

They can be cheap and they can be affordable and they can be expensive. It all depends. I think mine's worth about as much as a new Honda Civic.

Maybe the parenting-thing would have worked out better if dad had worked together with his son to bring an old project BMW back to life than flying off to photograph women's butts and using the money to buy his precious little snowflake a new BMW did.

Been in therapy since childhood....
So let him live out in the general society, not taking the responsibility of parents by checking his well-being and that of others constantly, and....
Fly him around in private planes, give him a $40K BMW, let him live the life of luxury but don’t give him the skills to cope with life....
Typical libtard parents.

There’s an extensive article at The Daily Mail on-line which goes into just what kind of life this kid lived leading up to this carnage....
Private planes, the BMW, anything he wanted...
Liberal belief: got a problem, throw money at it...even if it’s your kid.

I believe you are correct - it was the father of the young man shot in the deli.

“He had been in therapy since childhood, but turned his back on mental health care when he turned 18.”.....

Looks to me he was off track a long time ago but never committed.

This is the sorority he wanted to wipe out. These women are ridiculously hot. Maybe he should have tried one of the chubby sororities first.

Link to Alpha Phi sorority video - complete w/ bikinis and slip-n-slides.

Or what say we blame the therapy?

I mean, doesn't our dominant media culture believe that post hoc propter hoc?

Taking the meds doesn’t cure them. It makes them “pass for normal” until they ultimately flip out killing themselves/others.

It certainly appears that way. Acting out is suppressed via medication and overt ideation appears to be under control, but the pathology is festering beneath and eventually explodes. This warped young man's delusions of grandeur being allowed to continue and actually fed rather than corrected seems to me to have been the primary trigger for that explosion.

However, experience has also shown me that, for some reason, many folks who need medication to cope with their mental illness are not faithful to the prescribed regimen.

The medication has side effects. And sometimes, they prefer the "good" parts of the condition the medication suppresses.

Long ago, I had a friend that was bipolar. Once she was diagnosed, they put her on a strong dosage, and then backed it off to smaller dosages until the symptoms reappear. This adjustment period can be really difficult.

She also admitted that she missed the "high" points of her mood swings.

“But he turned away from mental health at 18...”

Who paid for Elliot Rodgers lifestyle and multi-years at community college? Who in effect paid for the 3 handguns used to kill three kids and wound more? How about the knives that he used to kill three (Asian) roommates? The BMW that he deliberately hit people with? Devastated, Blame-the-NRA Daddy, that’s who. Daddy gave this loser everything without requiring anything of him during his entire life. He continued to finance his son after the step-mom through him out (wonder why...) without seriously monitoring his conduct. Now he wants to blame everything but the mirror.

I wonder if Elliot’s therapists ever suggested he try something called “work”. His all-about-me manifesto never mentions anything about schoolwork, learning anything of value, doing any sort of chores at home, no summer jobs, nothing. No interest in anything but playing. He might have had severe schizophrenia at the end, but without independent evidence, I rather doubt he really had Aspergers — just extreme spoiliation, broken home syndrome, raised by nannies and videogames, a distracted selfish, amoral daddy, no source of moral grounding, shallow materialist values based on looks and status, and a life of unearned rewards, resulting in extreme narcissism. His parents failed to foster self-discipline, structure, and real-world experience that might have given him some self-esteem. Epic fail.

What was the immigration status of little UK-born Elliot? Had he been naturalized? Or was he another fine “Dreamer”?
