Based on exit polls. National Front is called far-right in the media, at the same time they note that it is essentially socialist in policy.

...it doesn’t take much to be “far right wing” in 2014.

Hell Marx would probably be a moderate by today’s standards.

“Far Right” is simply smear labeling by the Communist media.

You know that.

Its code for “Nazi” which they cant say outright because it would be laughed at.

“Based on exit polls. National Front is called far-right in the media, at the same time they note that it is essentially socialist in policy.”

Saw a great chart that compared ideology not to a straight, linear Left-to-Right line, but as a circle. If you go faaaaaarrrrr enough to the right then you wind up back into Socialism. Nazi style.

Same thing if you travel faaaar to the left.

Of course, this is France, so “Socialist” is kind of a given.

A circle is exactly what it is like.

Its neither a line nor a circle.

The fact is, the Nazis were National Socialists (which is what their name means). There was nothing conservative about them. For example, their party anthem, “Die Fahne hoch!“ mentions martyrs killed by the Red front and the Reaction (conservatives). The most enthusiastic segment of the population supporting the Nazis were teachers, roughly those at the equivalent of our high-school level. Think of our own unionized teachers for comparison.

Hitler is dead, but I often think that national socialism is probably the commonest form of government in the world today. Naturally, its practitioners would rather not admit the connection.

Thank you. The whole meme of the Nazis as a right wing organization is simply socialist propaganda. It's amazing that you still run into it even here on good old FR.

“Far right” means what? Lower taxes and defend your border?

When did the French EVER want that?

You'd be surprised how many Democrats and other associated Leftists take pride in their socialism when they make a comment about my bumper sticker ...

Politicalcompass.org has a good paradigm.

Every couple years I take their questionnaire to see if I have drifted.

I don’t see them holding power over a period of time and i don’t think electing Nazi’s is a good idea but every now and again the establishment needs to be called into account for their actions. Overall its a good thing and it will pass but the conversation in France will shift away from unfettered immigration towards a more sane policy. Let the Germans invite in the entire middle east if they wish. The rest of Europe is shifting away from that.

“Far right” is anything that gets in the way of Soros’s grand strategies. :)

This does not come from reason, but from the simple fact that the Communists labeled anybody who opposed them as "far right". Thus Nazis and Jeffersonians are both "far right".

A more rational spectrum would put those in favor of authoritarian state control on one end (putting Communists, Nazis, and fans of dictatorship in general on the same end), and those wanting minimal government on the other end.
