Republicans lead in Texas
PPP Press Release ^ | April 15, 2014 | PPP

Posted on 04/16/2014 4:34:11 AM PDT by BobL

PPP's newest Texas poll finds Republicans leading by double digits in all of the state's major races for 2014.

In the Governor's race Greg Abbott's at 51% to 37% for Wendy Davis. ------snip----- There's been some thought that Democratic prospects might be better in the race for Lieutenant Governor but Leticia Van de Putte actually trails by slightly more than Davis, regardless of who her Republican opponent ends up being. Dan Patrick leads her by 16 points at 51/35. ------snip----- Although it hasn't really been on anyone's radar screen the likely US Senate match up between John Cornyn and David Alameel is actually just about as competitive as the state races. Cornyn leads the contest 49/32.

If these numbers hold up, this will be an even BIGGER blowout than usual for the Dems in Texas.

The race everyone is watching is the Lt. Governor, where the Republican, Dan Patrick, is well known here as he owns several radio stations. He is 100% for border security and no Amnesty and is PROUD OF IT. Seems to be doing quite well. At the bottom of the article is a link to the internals (PDF file). In there you will see that Patrick is, even surprising to me, running VERY STRONG with Hispanics, being only 6 points down (better than the other candidates). Hispanics, especially, know who he is, as Spanish Language media has been pounding him non-stop on the issue. Seems like Karl Rove might learn something here.

But unless the Dems can get Voter ID thrown out, it's going to be a very bad year here for them.

Leticia van de Putte-there’s a blast from the past! Wasn’t she one of the “Killer D’s”?

“Leticia van de Putte”

Didn’t even consider that she’s the only Hispanic running in the big 3 races here, and she’s running against the most conservative person on Amnesty, and she’s still barely treading water with Hispanics.

The Dems keep telling us that the HISPANICS ARE COMING!! and will take over (and hence the Democrats) - but they are far from a lock for the Dems. In fact, the white vote (in favor or Republicans) is more lopsided than the Hispanic vote is for Dems. And, again, the one Republican who’s making his opposition to Amnesty the centerpiece of his campaign is doing the best with Hispanics (out of the 3 Republicans).

If I recall, she was one of the original Flee-baggers, correct?

Yep...

Now that we’ll have an ADULT running the State Senate, as in Dan Patrick, the Dems won’t get away with that stunt again.

PPP is a dim sponsored poll. Wendy’s 14% deficit is more likely about 25%

Just looking at the internals a bit more, it appears that the whites are about 70/30 Republican here in Texas and also very conservative, whereas the Hispanics are around 60/40 Democrat...not promising for the Dems at all. They also aren’t fooled by the president, splitting evenly on whether they approve of him.

The Dems are really stuck with having to get HUGE NUMBERS of Hispanics to vote, to have a chance of upsetting the white advantage in Republican votes - and it will be quite a while before they get there, although Amnesty will certainly quicken things.

It will be a tough road for P Bush.

I will not be voting for him.

Having listened to Dan Patrick for a couple of years, I’d say describing him as the adult is wishful thinking.
I think he’ll win, and I hope he wins, but I’m afraid he will stick his foot in his mouth often enough that we might come to have mixed feelings.

“...but I’m afraid he will stick his foot in his mouth often enough that we might come to have mixed feelings.”

Give anyone 2 hours of air time every day and they’ll stick their foot in their mouth (except, maybe, Charlie Rose). What counts is that he WILL NOT listen to Karl Rove and he WILL NOT hold out Texas as friendly to Illegals.

If he does stick his foot in his mouth once in a while, big deal - as long as he has that position, our state is safe.

This is not a surprise.

I have seen two polls of legal Hispanics. In both, they opposed amnesty by about 2-to-1 (roughly 60/32). And, why not, they are legal, they are Americans!

There is, indeed, a lesson here for the GOP-e on how to claim a larger share of the Hispanic vote.

None of the legal, established Mexican Texans I know are for amnesty.

Wendy Davis had surgery this week for neck problems.
It would seem when one has their head firmly implanted in their butt, neck pain can occur.

Yet, this seems so little understood by the Republican leadership. And, for that matter, many FReepers.

They keep talking about gaining a larger percentage of "the Hispanic vote" and here's a way to do it -- one that would strengthen them with their own base...and is "the right thing to do" in any case.

And they don't see it...
