The poll seems to have something for everyone. It does say that 60% of Hispanics want the border sealed first, before advancing on Amnesty (versus 30% that don’t), but it also says something like 80% eventually do want Amnesty for those still here. I think the prospect of being hounded by INS only because they’re Hispanic bothers them.

Patrick has, brilliantly, only talking border security - that’s why it’s actually helping him with Hispanics. If he moves to Amnesty, he may start losing them. Needless to say, the Dems have the same polling, which is why they act like they want to secure the border - but the end-game for them is clearly Amnesty and re-population of this country.

In digging for this poll, I did see poll-after-poll from last summer (when the Dems were making their real move, funny how the polling just happens at the same time) - and every poll had similar results on Amnesty - which were the results of the above poll. Hispanics do want eventual Amnesty - I’d love to find an eventual poll that says otherwise, but a lot of Hispanics do have relatives here illegally and that sets their position.

Thanks for making the effort to dredge up the poll.

However, it's not one of the two I recall -- which specifically cited 60%+ against amnesty. I don't recall them addressing border security, though they likely did.

Nor do I recall the source being National Review. I've a vague recollection the results were printed on a colored background -- yellow or blue.

I understand...the best that we can ask is you keep digging. It does make sense to me that Hispanics would have relatives and friends that are not here legally and would get defensive when enforcement is talked about.

Even though you got pummeled, it’s still best if you can find some hard data supporting your position, because it is a really big deal for us if true.
