Militiamen make their presence felt in protest of BLM’s livestock grab
Las Vegas Sun ^ | April 11, 2014 | By Ed Komenda

BUNKERVILLE — The militiamen rolled in to draw a line in the dirt.

About 70 miles northeast of Las Vegas, they set up camp on a sun-baked patch of land next to a bend in the Virgin River, keeping supplies — like rucksacks and sleeping bags — in neat piles under the roof of an abandoned shack.

Gruff and largely unshaven, dressed in camouflage fatigues and cut-off shirts, the men kept their intentions quiet, telling news reporters the reason they pulled their trucks into this rural desert town — on one of the hottest days of the year — is simple enough: “We’re here to camp,” said one man who would not share his name.

But they were really here to protect one of their own from the perceived enemies: a band of federal agents recently dispatched to the scrub desert to seize the cattle of embattled rancher Cliven Bundy.

“They’re here to protect Cliven’s family and home,” said Lynn Brown, one of Bundy’s daughters.

A 68-year-old Nevada native, Bundy has long been at the center of a battle with the Bureau of Land Management, the federal agency controlling the 150 miles of desert where the rancher’s cattle have roamed for decades. A renegade when it comes to any sort of government control, Bundy — the father of 14 children — has refused to pay BLM a dime of required grazing fees for his 900 cattle, a tab that has since reached $300,000. Bundy has fought the fee, he says, because his Mormon ancestors set up shop on the land long before the BLM formed.

The problem? The land where Bundy’s cattle graze is federally owned, and the BLM now says the livestock aren’t supposed to be there. Federal agents this week cordoned off sections of land and sparked...

Sounds like a very logical and well thought out letter with an implied warning and threat to tyrants who seek to impose their will and force over us

Yes from what I read, this is correct, but he says he would gladly pay the fees to Clark County Nevada if they sent him a bill, says does not recognize the feds owning Nevada land as when his family started grazing on it, it was state of Nevada or maybe even still a territory... Personally I think the land rights should be grandfathered to him in this case... If he had set up a mine there 140 years ago and produced enough from the land, it would have been a patented claim and he would have owned the land outright...

They've been grazing cattle on that land since 1870.
They probably know the carrying capacity.

Have to side with Bundy on this one. Don’t like what the gangster thugs in Washington are up to here, The Governor should tell them to clear out.

There are 3 videos from a sheriff in another county of AZ that faced this same over reach towards one of his rancher constituents. He explains the Feds don’t have the authority to come in and take the cattle unless the sheriff grants them that authority. This video was done in 2010 but is applicable to what is happening right now. You will be uplifted by this honorable man and wish, like I did, we had more sheriff’s that understood the constitution.

I think all of us wondered about the overkill response by BLM. Once you see Harry Reid’s son made a deal with a Chinese solar energy company that wants the land it starts to make more sense. I think if you watch the videos you will understand this situation better and the importance of the water rights and why BLM is removing his water pipes that carried water for the livestock and local wildlife. This is starting to look like nothing to do with a turtle and everything to do with Harry Reid wanting that land for the Chinese company his son made a big$$$$ deal with.

Interesting that the narrative of the article mentions military garb, camouflage, etc. as if all that is a bad thing. But when I scanned through the 16 pictures they had plus the two in the article, there is no one that I could see dressed like that. Just ranchers, citizens and normal people.

One would think the writer was taking literary license for which his/her permit had expired.

Im sure many would like to see this come to blows but the best possible outcome would be to hold off allow the feds to show thier true brutality toward Americans and use this to carry the torch to the 2014 and 2016 elections. The regime and the media commies would like nothing more than to see this turn out to be bloody, they won and zippy can crack down across the board. Lets use our heads

Fedgov won’t back down and risk losing face. And the militias can’t back down for the same reason. This may be the 2nd shot heard around the world

I understand the thing about the fees, okay. This is not a direct and proportional response by the Feds however. Treating a ranching family like a group of foreign subversives planning treachery and all.

If the BLM would put such resources toward guarding the border or the like. If....

Agree. I think Obozo’s trainers are trying to use Clintoon’s strategy to demonize the opposition. It worked for Slick Willie. Exposure of these criminals true intent is the path.

Yes, I have great respect for both Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea’s work exposing the Fast & Furious abuse of power by Holder and the BATF.

These are not powerful people, but they have been effective defenders of our right to keep and bear arms.

The ONLY reason they haven’t turned full-blown scorched earth at this point is because of all the video cameras and media attention. The first opportunity when the media gets distracted with something else, the protesters will be tazed and drug off along with their video cameras and the slaughter will commence. They will also probably claim Bundy was filing off trigger sears or that he had a shotgun with a 17 7/8” barrel. Of course, Bundy and his family will be dead so there will be no one to dispute those claims.
