Note that the USAF doesn't quite apologize to this family, and that nothing has apparently been done to change the erroneous info in this national stolen car database.

Well it was their fault for driving a vehicle the MPs thought was stolen. Next time they should make sure their vehicle isn’t on the list.

I spent 10 years in the Air Force. The base police did not instill confidence.

But his was a high-risk traffic stop!

Notice how it gets repeated.

Yeah, two kids and two women, one a senior citizen.

It is up to the originating agency to up date and remove any erroneous files.

The base police should have report the error to the entering agency.

It took 90 minutes to look at the registration, re-run the plates, and compare to the drivers’ licenses?

"Had the vehicle not originally come back as stolen, this situation would have been resolved with a quick courtesy stop of the vehicle to clarify the initial report."

This makes not one bit of sense. It is self contradictory.

How to you clarify an initial report with a 'courtesy stop' yet blame that same 'report' as the reason these people were handcuffed and detained?

The fact is that if there had not been an erroneous report, there would have been no reason to stop them in the first place. They apparently learned from the best: Obama.

The Air Force Museum is just fantastic. If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of Dayton, you really should stop by.

I believe they open at 8am 7 days a week, not sure what time they close, and it's free.

Well there is one place the armed forces are actually allowed to carry arms...and unfortunately use them against unarmed women and children.

I guess if it’s a man shooting a real gun, then they will “shelter in place”?

Just part of the desensitization of ‘civilians’ (and LEOs) to brutal treatment of innocents.

With the proliferation of automatic license plate readers, we can expect incidents like this to become a common occurrence.

Well at least they apologized. If it had been civilian cops the women would have been tazed, maybe shot, and the explanation would have been that the police responded in an appropriate manner given the threatening circumstances and the exigencies of the situation. /s/

A witness had called security to report that the family was acting suspiciously, peering into various cars in the museum’s parking lot. Hill told police she and her 8-year-old grandson Aaron were checking out license plates around the lot to see how far some visitors had traveled.
“My son was excited to see different state license plates, especially the Alaska plate he saw on the way in,” 31-year-old Wendy Hill told police. “We drove the lot to see if he missed any before we left to go home. That was when we were stopped.”
