Boehner to attend Ritz Carlton event for anti-tea party group
dailycaller.com ^ | 3/28/14 | Patrick Howley

Republican House Speaker John Boehner will spend next weekend at a Ritz Carlton event hosted by an anti-tea party group devoted to fighting conservatives within the GOP.

Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor will be among 28 House members attending a $5,000-a-head event hosted by The Republican Main Street Partnership’s advocacy group, Red State reported. Donations will reportedly go to the anti-tea party super PAC Defending Main Street, which by February had received most of its funding from labor unions.

The event will be hosted at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island in Nassau County, Florida.

The Republican Main Street Partnership and its affiliated Main Street Advocacy group are headed by former Rep. Steve LaTourette, who has committed himself to raising money and running ads to defend centrist congressional Republican candidates from tea party primary challengers.

“They have decided to systemically go against center-right Republicans in primary elections,” LaTourette previously told The Daily Caller, referring to his tea party rivals. LaTourette said that tea partiers are happy to call him a “RINO” but that that they go “apoplectic” when the “RINO gets a gun” and “fires back.”

“Here’s the deal: we didn’t start this fight,” LaTourette said, “but I’m going to finish it.”

LaTourette’s efforts challenge those of conservative House members like Rep. Louie Gohmert, who recently launched his GOH Conservative PAC to fight back against establishment Republican fundraising efforts.

Gohmert criticized Boehner Thursday after the Speaker rushed a seemingly doomed bill to extend Medicare reimbursements through the House with a “voice vote” while many members were still in their offices instead of on the House floor. Gohmert said “you need to be able to trust your own leadership.”

Tea Party - trying to limit the power of DC.
GOPe - content to share a small piece of an expanding power pie

And yet, and yet...there are people here on FreeRepublic who insist that all we have to do is pack the Senate with GOP people, and everything will be peachy keen. Go figure.

Sure, let's pack the GOP Senate with McConnell acolytes. That'll really turn things around inside the beltway!

"Follow me, boys!"

My biggest wish is that this clown gets defeated at the ballot box. I don’t care if it’s a Democrat that does it because at least I know where that person will stand on the issues unlike Boehner who will talk like a conservative while stabbing us all in the back.

Lee and Paul appear not to be GOPe but Paul did endorse McConell, although I don’t write him off.

That’s the Senate.

In the House only 12 members of the GOP like Gohmert did not support Boehner’s leadership at the beginning of this session so I consider the rest RINO’s.

Boehner needs to go home and buy some rope. They hate change and they hate anyone that rocks the boat. Time for new leadrship.

“If you’ve not done your patriotic duty and run from the GOP yet, you ARE the problem.”

To get on the ballot, many Tea Partiers have to run as Republicans. The Tea Party is not big enough yet to run independently in most States. I do not give to any Republican Funds, but will give to individual candidates that I hope are really conservatives. I want to vote in the primaries against the RINOs. Not every state allows open primaries. In fact I wish they didn't have open primaries, since the Democrats will often vote in the Republican primaries to skew the results to the left.

I read an article the other day that there are now 40 Pubbies (so far) that won’t vote for Boehner for speaker next term. My 1st choice for speaker is Rep Gohmert and 2nd is Trey Gowdy, unless they want to select someone that is currently not in the House. Then Alan West would be a good choice IMHO.

Sounds about right. Instead of preparing a budget or doing something to limit the scope of government, the gop “leadership” is meeting to figure out ways to de-fang the Tea Parties.

It’s times like this that I breathe a sigh of relief and thank God that I’ve never have been a member of the gop faction of the uniparty. While deeply regretting ever having been a member of the ‘rat faction.

If this putz is calling the GOPe "center-right", that not only exposes his political perspective (Left), but that he and those of his ilk are committed to their present course of serving the Left on critical issues.

The battle lines are drawn thus, but by leftists within the GOP.

As if Main Street in most of the USA (where not boarded up or for rent) is Small Business, the kind Obamacare is killing, and the kind that hires American Citizens.

That's how out of touch these people are.

They want to be token "conservatives" inside a vast liberal bureaucracy. They feel very comfortable in that role, and it's a role that doesn't require a single ounce of authentic conservative thought. In fact, it doesn't require any thought at all. Just the strong desire to be liked and "kept" by powerful leftist players.

Did anyone notice that number?

Twenty-eight (28) House members are in this gang? Out of over 200 GOP Caucus members?

Sounds like a slim crew to be talking about taking out the Tea Party. Who, after all, only gave Boehner his gavel -- and he knows it!

We have a new phenomenon in politics: Intransigent, and guilty, ingratitude.

Will wonders never cease?

"Center Right" is the new lie of art for the RiNO's. The only thing "right" about them is the right-turn indicators on their automobiles.

It's code for, "conservative (well, sometimes) on the budget, but liberal as hell on social issues because the Democrats own the Media and will shred anyone who touches their sacred social issues".

IMNSHO.

I am sure Boehner lives behind some gates where he can't get protesters of his own. IMO he deserves some at this point.
