BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A Branford police officer is off the job after he got into a fight online with someone about gun ownership. That officer is on leave after he told someone online he couldn’t wait to bang down his door and take his gun.

A heated Facebook discussion with a Branford police officer that John Cinque says the cop took too far.

“I’ll give my left nut to have the ability or have the opportunity to kick your door in and take your guns.”

That was one of the comments Cinque says was over the line. But there is a whole thread of questionable remarks said to be posted by Officer Joe Peterson.

“I can only tell you that we had a complaint about a Facebook post that one of our officers made and we have started in internal investigation and that investigation is under way right now,” said Captain Geoffrey Morgan, Branford Police Department.

Anything short of dismissal, and possible arrest, is unacceptable.

This clown is a danger to free citizens.

There are several things wrong here. His poor thinking to post a comment of this nature means he has bad judgment. The comment itself reveals a mentality that should not be officially carrying a gun. Between the bad judgment and the bad publicity he brought onto his organization he not only needs dismissal, but he needs to be out of any position of power, authority and control.

However, he’ll be suspended with pay and then back on the streets with a promotion.

this is going to be interesting to watch play out.

Slap on the wrist?
Anger management?
Hillsdale course on the constitution?
over a visit from Obama because he mention gun control?

At least he was honest about his intentions, unlike the filthy politicians who helped him realize his inner thug.

Looking into my crystal ball I see...

He will receive a mild slap on the wrist for publicly stating what his whole department thinks.

He won’t be fired, but those comments can be saved and used in a future law suit when he violates the rights of a citizen sometime in the future.

...and he gets to continue his paid vacation while he is being investigated (he was apparently on paid ‘disability’ when he made the comments).

Unfortunately, law enforcement attracts people who want power and control. They make very enthusiastic employees.

My sister worked for Air Force OSI and said they’d try to screen these people out. She asked candidates why they wanted the job and sometimes they’d say things like, “I want to bust people.” But what I’ve noticed about law enforcement over the last thirty years is they seem to have lost quality control over who they take. If you recruit not the best, but by a quota you have to take what you can get. The same is true when government contractors are essentially forced to hire x% of people from various classes and pay them equal money to more qualified candidates. The root problem here is PC in government.

Exactly.

But that is the reason why he should be fired, and NEVER allowed employment as a law enforcement officer. He will henceforth be ineffective as a police officer because every arrest he makes, whether 'solid' or not, will be questioned, and will have the potential to bring about a law suit from a citizen.

Dismissed and immediately snatched up by Homeland Security or DoJ. Just the type (”a few good men”) Obama’s looking for.

Hey Joe! I'll take that nut off you, and your head too, if you want to try busting down my door without a valid warrant!

I'll then put your head on a pike in my front lawn as a warning to the next treasonous SOB against our CONSTITUTION!

“I’ll give my left nut to have the ability or have the opportunity to kick your door in and take your guns.”

It is going to cost him a lot more than his left nut. And who is protecting his house, while he is out trying to raid mine?
