MH370 detected above Malacca Straits at 2.40am

The search for Malaysian Airlines MH307 plane has been expanded to Sumatran waters, north of Straits of Malacca, as military radar may have detected the missing plane in the vicinity of Pulau Perak.

A Berita Harian report today quoted the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as saying the plane may have reversed course further than expected while on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Air Force chief Rodzali Daud ( left ) is quoted as saying that based on military radar readings from its station in Butterworth, MH370 may have turned west after Kota Bahru and flew past the east coast and Kedah.

"The last time the plane was detected was near Pulau Perak, in the Straits of Malacca, at 2.40am," Berita Harian quotes Rodzali as saying.

This contradicts with earlier reports that the aircraft had disappeared from radar screens 120 nautical miles off Kota Bharu and over the South China Sea, at 1.30am on March 8.

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) had previously said the search for the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, which is missing for the fourth day, had previously been focused around the waters between East Malaysia and Vietnam.

No sign of terrorism? It looks like a picture from the TV show 24.

“Is there a spot on land that the plan could have crashed that is remote enough to miss?”

You hear of them uncovering planes that crashed during wars sometimes, maybe Vietnam. I would guess a plane could crash in a jungle and be undiscovered for a lengthy period of time.

Transponders can be turned to off.

I heard this discussed, not sure if many people would always have the wherewithal to do such.

My cell phone goes directly to voicemail if it’s turned off. The caller hears no ring.

Why do both men have the same lower region in the photos? Those are two top halves of different men, but the green pants and shoes — and floor tiles are from one person.

There were graphics showing the US searching the area at the north end of Malacca Strait early to mid day Monday.

The passports were probably taken by “Mr. Ali,” the guy who arranged their flights and no doubt provided the stolen passports for them. Personally, I don’t think they were terrorists; just people attempting to sneak into a European country (where at least one of them, the one bound for Frankfurt, already had family).

Yep, noticed that too.

Perhaps they thought we’d not notice it, you know, like the Birth Certificate.

I have no idea ... having not been on the plane. Is starting to get nasty though between agencies. Not good and less sharing of information is beginning due to mounting pressure but know not where that pressure is coming from or rather which agency or agencies. Will not be good for future security either in that region of this world. (imho) ... France is taking a lead, of sorts though, and filing charges.

Long before it gets to east Africa it would pass almost directly over Diego Garcia. Clearly we would have known of its approach 1500 klics out. The Indians would have acquired it earlier. It seems certain someone’s radars picked up something on a westerly heading over the Straits at 9,000 meters. Which military’s radar made the contact? Was the sighting reported up the chain? If it was Malaysian with their Brit roots I’d expect details of the contact and reports. Indonesia and Thai, not so much.

Would a crash on land show up on a seismograph? I wonder if any movement was detected in on land.

..... Perhaps Skyjacking is becoming the technique de jour among the trendy new terror groups?

First off, we are fed BS by M government and silence by US govt, sooo....nothing is fully believable at this point, however...

US was shown searching west of Malay Peninsula yesterday and did not dispute. Further, US govt said yest no explosion on sat and we looked, (thorough coverage).

Now Malay govt says plane descended, turned west, crossed over, and descended again. Malacca Strait a busy place.

All along, they said it went quiet on original course.

If this is believable and not more BS, it is clear that SOMEBODY turned off all comms, flew the wrong way for a long while, then descended again, and now, the plane isn’t in the water, so it either kept flying and landed somewhere, or it flew on and crashed further west yet.

Again, IF we aren’t hearing more BS, somebody took this plane and most likely still has it.

"I think they’ve determined that the Iranians actually were asylum seekers with no other objective"

What a perfect cover story for prospective terrorists/hijackers.
