Libya threatens to bomb North Korean tanker if it ships oil from rebel port

Libya threatened on Saturday to bomb a North Korean-flagged tanker if it tried to ship oil from a rebel-controlled port, in a major escalation of a standoff over the country's petroleum wealth.

The rebels, who have seized three major Libyan ports since August to press their demands for more autonomy, warned Tripoli against staging an attack to halt the oil sale after the tanker docked at Es Sider terminal, one of the country's biggest. The vessel started loading crude late at night, oil officials said.

The oil dispute is just one facet of the deepening turmoil in the North African OPEC member, where the government is struggling to control militias who helped topple Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 but kept their weapons and now challenge state authority.

A local television station controlled by protesters showed footage of pro-autonomy rebels holding a lengthy ceremony and slaughtering a camel to celebrate their first oil shipment. In the distance stood a tanker. The station said the ceremony took place in Es Sider.

Prime Minister Ali Zeidan appeared on television to warn the tanker's crew. "The tanker will be bombed if it doesn't follow orders when leaving (the port). This will be an environmental disaster," Zeidan said.

I think the Lybian government would be justified if it bombed the tanker. It is what either the Union or the Confederacy would have done given the same circumstance and technology.

Simple, no love lost between a group of hostile Islamo fascists and a NK tanker ship, manned by communists.

Hopefully, Obozo will stay out of this. He could send Kerry to ride on the Ship to nuance the Islamo fascists.

Trouble in tin pot dictator paradise?

Not really, it always has been about who gets Libyan oil, who gets the money paid for it, and the banking system the money passes through.

Libyan oil will go to Western Europe and the cash will pass through IMF banks. Anyone that does not cooperate will die.

The Libya bombing was always about the west gaining access to oil. Research "Apache Oil and Egypt". Apache is a western oil company which drills in western Egypt and wanted to control the ports in eastern Libya to get their oil out. But those darn nationalist dictators in Egypt and Libya didn't want to give their oil or their terminals to western corporations. So, darned if there weren't "peaceful protests" (ie CIA) to topple those governments. Now, it looks like the proxy fighters in eastern Libya want to keep what they fought for. Same situation with Benghazi....those darn Libya "freedom fighter"-terrorists aren't just goin' away. Then there's the matter of Khaddafi's billions in Italian banks. Italy really, really didn't want to give that money back.

This is all conspiracty theory, for sure. But it sure is panning out. You didn't really think the west is getting rid of dictators because they're bad guys, did you? Regime change is not for the good of the people.

Bombed — as ffom the air?

Why not just send a ship over and lob a shell into it?
