The Insiders: Get ready for the Obamacare ‘Big Punt’ (Individual mandate collapse)
Washington Post ^ | 3/06/14 | Ed Rogers

**SNIP**

The distraction of Ukraine and the media’s numbness to the stream of Obamacare travails is providing time and a smokescreen for Obama to prepare a big announcement for after March 31, 2014: The BIG PUNT, i.e. a delay in the individual mandate.

The White House and their Democratic allies must realize that they are on a trajectory to lose the Senate in 2014 and are likely coming to terms with the idea that delaying the individual mandate is one way to attempt to change that path. Look for the president to bite the bullet and give in to the vulnerable Democrats, consultants, pundits and other credible handwringers who are telling the president they must try anything and everything to alter the course of the elections. Otherwise, the last two years of the president’s time in office will be spent either vetoing or signing into law Republican legislation, and only conservative-approved nominees will be confirmed for any federal post by a Republican Senate.

Obamacare is a terminal political cancer for incumbent Senate Democrats, including senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) and Mark Begich (D-Ala.). Senators Mark Udall (D-Colo.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) are showing early stage symptoms as well. Combine those races with the open seats in West Virginia, South Dakota, Iowa and Michigan and it’s obvious the Democrats are struggling.

Will Hussein punt in his mom jeans? Won't this make the repeal complete? Are all Americans still liars? Stay tuned...

Has no one figured out that the individual mandate has nothing to do with the explosion in the cost of insurance?? It will have no effect on the declining access to health care. It will not stop tens of thousands of doctors leaving the profession. It will not stop millions of Mexican invaders from joining the free health care crowds.

Delaying it will have no effect on those losing non compliant policies, nor will it mitigate 50%-300% premium increases.

It just means that [for a limited time] we won’t be fined by the government for being driven into poverty by ObamaCare.

BFD

Thank you John “the traitor” Roberts.

If it’s such a wonderful, urgently needed program, why delay it????

He cannot unilaterally delay the mandate can he?

That’s what the most recent gov’t shutdown was about - writing legislation to delay the mandate.

Senator Cruz, please preempt this move.

It’s too late anyway. All this would do is postpone the fines.

The whole system has been thrown into upheaval, the Jeannie is out of the bottle.

People have already had their hours cut, been laid off, lost their existing policies and grappled with the exchanges because of this POS.

The only people loving this are the LIVs on Medicaid.

Won't this make the repeal complete? Are all Americans still liars?

They'll just declare it to be the fault of the GOP.

I bet the liberals sure are pissed. My wife was talking to some and they were saying stuff like “well, once everyone is on it the prices will come down...”.

Is your wife still on the floor laughing?

Liberals live in a fantasy world.

So “no pre-existing conditions” is still in place, but the individual mandate will be axed. The cost figures were based, erroneously I might add, on the fines driving people to acquire coverage. Without the mandate in place there is no good reason to purchase coverage for those who didn’t want insurance in the first place.

Thus, the insurance companies are left holding the bag. They are forced to offer more expensive plans with fewer people enrolled, but the pool of people covered is effectively expanded.

It was clear from the beginning that the whole ACA was intended to drive the insurance companies out of the health care market and “force” the government to step in with single payer.

The idea from the start was to build a consensus for a single-payer national health care insurance scheme. Either bankrupt the insurance companies with untenable mandates or foment such chaos that a majority would welcome the expansion of Medicare to all ages.

The Obama amoeba.
It morphs weekly.
At least now I can see why they needed the 15,000 additional attorneys and accountants to administer the constant revisions.

The only question that maters is, “How many uninsured are there now, versus before ObamaCare?

The 47 million, the 47 million, the 47 million uninsured, the 47 million uninsured ... THAT was the rationale for ObamaCare ... so, how many uninsured do we have now?
