"NEW YORK, N.Y. - A survey of academics has found that Eleanor Roosevelt was the nation's best first lady. Michelle Obama ranks fifth."

The author is about as sloppy a journalist as anyone could imagine. The "academics" stated an opinion. They did not find anything. An explorer makes findings. So, in another sense, does a Jury. But poseurs answering a questionnaire, are merely stating opinions.

Comparing three vulgar, publicity seeking, women without sense enough to know when to shut up, with some of the bright and gracious women who have actually been helpful to honorable husbands in high office, is too silly to be taken seriously. But at least the journalist could have used English words to better effect.

So-called scholars.

Basket-weaving and women’s studies doesn’t count for much in the real world.

Well, Eleanor lived into the ‘60s, so Hillary was alive at the same time.

One wonders how many real jobs these “scholars” have ever had - you know, where they actually had to produce a product that someone wanted, or actually labor...

RE Eleanor:

Never heard that before... where did that come from?

That she liked the ladies? It's well known, I think they found letters with one of her girlfriends. Even her wikipedia page doesn't hide the fact. She also cheated on Frank with lots of dudes. It's not to good to hear so much about the sex life of such an ugly woman!

Of course, doh! ;p

Uncanny resemblance. You just know if a woman President was fathomable back then that she would run, maybe in ‘52.

There was something about Jackie having an affair with a Russian male ballet dancer. Rumors of others. I think she probably did Bobby.

And she hooked up with that rich old guy.

And hell I read somewhere she was screwing Jack in the back of his car shortly after meeting him.

The best first lady was James Buchanan's wife.

He was a bachelor (smart man).

Andrew Jackson knew Buchanan as Miss Nancy. Buchanan's common law wife, Senator William Rufus King of Alabama, was known as Aunt Fancy.

We already had a woman President back around 1919... If Eleanor had run in ‘52, she would’ve been stomped (she was also, no surprise, a Red sympathizer).

Yeah but the public didn’t know Edith was in charge did they?

Hell, I wonder how much of the government knew.

No, they didn’t know. The personal physician knew. That an invalid who had suffered a massive stroke being manipulated by his brand-new wife was left as President was appalling. Vice-President Tom Marshall should’ve assumed the duties. What’s even worse is that Wilson was apparently even hell-bent to run for a 3rd term (of course, going and campaigning would’ve killed him — and he still would’ve lost to any Republican).

Unquestionably, his election was one of the worst things to happen to this country. Had Charles Evans Hughes corrected the mistake of 1912, it’s quite possible he would’ve kept the false promise Wilson made during the campaign of 1916 — keeping us out of war.

Well, for some strange reason, regarding Jackie, I just don’t believe it.

Gut instinct tells me she was decent folk. Maybe I’m naive, I dunno.

Now the men in that family where pathetic for sure... but, at least JFK stood up to the communists (shaky knees at Bay of Pigs notwithstanding - he really screwed the pooch on that one).

But the whole “Camelot” thing is ridiculous. and this supposed “divine right of a Kennedy to rule is crap.

Teddy The Swimmer was proof that political dynasties need to be abolished.
