Wal-Mart Relies On Taxpayers To Subsidize Low Wages

According to The Huffington Post, Congressional Democrats released a study Thursday that demonstrated how Wal-Mart’s wages are so low that many of its workers must rely on food stamps and other government aid programs, costing taxpayers as much as $900,0000 at just one Wal-Mart Supercenter in Wisconsin.

The report, “The Low-Wage Drag on Our Economy,” was produced by Democrats with the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

The idea of a “livable wage” has to be based on the assumption that someone should be paid just for existing,
regardless of the value they provide through their labor.

When the pols argue for a “livable wage”,
what they’re saying is everyone should be provided a living,
then whatever they can make on top of that is gravy.

The Walton family is rich beyond the dreams of avarice...and the billions earned by China are far beyond that. The cost to our social welfare, trade deficit and debt is immeasurable...

2013 Forbes 400:

(6) Christy Walton & family $35.4 B 59 Jackson, Wyoming Wal-Mart
(7) Jim Walton $33.8 B 66 Bentonville, Arkansas Wal-Mart
(8)Alice Walton $33.5 B 64 Fort Worth, Texas Wal-Mart
(9) S. Robson Walton $33.3 B 70 Bentonville, Arkansas Wal-Mart

Combined wealth is double that of Bill Gates. If Sam Walton were still alive he would (by far) be the richest man on Earth.

If you subsidize something (unemployment), you get more of it.

So Debbie Wasserman is opposed to same-sex “marriage” and thinks man-made “global warming” is a load of bollocks? Wow, who knew. (sarc)

So according to this logic, if we got rid of government handouts, Wal-Mart would be forced to raise their wages.

Sounds like a “Win-Win.”

That’s just one of many programs...and it still gives them five years. That’s long enough to get a full bachelors degree and a year of experience under ones belt. ...or a couple of career changes.

The Chinese and Irish immigrants who worked for railroads in the late 19th century have long since moved on to better opportunities.

Well, I believe that the ones who accepted Jesus moved on to better opportunities. The ones who rejected the Lord (including many Chinese immigrants) probably didn't fare so well.

A year spent working at Wal-Mart was the BEST THING that ever happened to my son. After 2.5 years of aimless college attendance, with the last 2 semesters more or less wasted, I pulled the plug on financial support for school.

Wal-Mart was about the only job he could find. He started off ABOVE min wage. He worked his butt off, for low wages for a little more than a year. In the process, he learned much about himself. He learned:

1) He is NOT lazy
2) He is far more capable than he thought.

When he saved up enough money, he went back to college to complete his computer science degree. Since he’s returned? 4.0 GPA.

I THANK GOD for Wal-Mart, and the good people that work there. Most of them are hard working people, who take care of themselves.

A socialist is what you are.

There were “conservative” nazis as well but at the end of the day they all were on board with national socialism.

I’m glad they are rich. They deserve it for putting so many people to work.

If a Walmart worker is a mooch, why is Walmart to blame? If a Walmart worker was gay, would that be Walmart’s fault as well?
And why is Walmart the only company to blame? Or are they just the convenient scapegoat?
You guys need to go back to Demonization school.

For starters, peg the minimum wage to inflation.

And honestly, we need to rethink free trade. “Free Trade” was big in the old British Empire, and it helped destroy it. Read the literature on why they did not appreciate the tariffs that US (and later Canada) used to build up their own infrastructure.

Everything they say applies to illegal immigrants working in the construction industry and almost everywhere. So, when are they going to close the border?

You need to go and read the FREE REPUBLIC CHARTER and for who and why we exist here. You are a progressive keynesian that says that they believe in the sanctity of life and the truth of scripture. Great... but that does not make you a Conservative and that does not make you immune to debate over progressive economics... which you profess to believe in. wasserman would say and do anything that she thinks will further the cause of international communism. Leftists lie.
