Clark County management has ordered Martin Bassick, president of the Service Employees International Union Local 1107, to report for work at a county job in a move that reflects the county’s interpretation of a new state law concerning paid leave for union representatives. The county’s human resources department notified Bassick in a letter Thursday to report at his county public works job at 8 a.m. Monday, according to correspondence obtained by the Review-Journal. A federal judge in Texas Monday temporarily blocked President Obama's November executive action on immigration. The judge’s action threatens immigration relief for as many as 4 million people. The Obama administration will appeal the ruling. March 31 marks the birthday of National Farm Workers Association (later United Farm Workers) co-founder Cesar Chavez. Chavez, who was trained by Saul Alinsky in the tactics of community organizing, has become a cult figure in California due to his organization of agricultural workers. March 31 also happens to be another important date this year: Easter. So, naturally, Google’s current logo features a graphic of Chavez’s face, rather than anything having to do with Easter.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka is leaving Charlotte on Thursday and will not attend President Obama's acceptance speech. Trumka is leaving early in order to avoid the travel crush at the Charlotte airport on Friday, according to a spokesman for Workers’ Voice, the AFL-CIO’s super-PAC. A rolling tape on an answering machine has caught an unsuspecting Rep. Fred Clark, D-Baraboo, saying he wanted to "smack around" a woman from his district after she hung up on him. Clark, who is challenging Sen. Luther Olsen, R-Ripon, in a recall election, was making campaign calls last week when he reached the Baraboo home of Sue and John Stapelman. During the Governor's Budget Address an individual, later identified as William M. Gruber of California, breached the closed plaza perimeter multiple times. Each time he was asked to leave and was escorted out. After his third breach he once again laid down on the plaza as he had done before. Upon his third breach when asked again to leave, he instead ran toward the Capitol building and was apprehended. He was subsequently transported to the Dane County Public Safety Building. He has been charged with State Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest.
