The head of one of the nation's most powerful labor unions did not condemn the violent rhetoric in placards and signs held by union supporters demonstrating in Wisconsin despite two direct attempts Sunday to get him on the record declaring them inappropriate.
On several occasions over the past two weeks of demonstrations in the Wisconsin capital of Madison news media have zeroed in on signs that liken Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and recently ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Appearing Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka was twice asked whether he found the tone at the nearly two-week long demonstrations "wrong" or "inappropriate."
Trumka did not answer, instead saying, "We should be sitting down trying to create jobs. ... In Wisconsin, a vast majority of the people think this governor has overreached. His popularity has gone down. They're saying to him, sit down and negotiate; don't do what you've been doing. So he's losing."
Turning to Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a staunch Walker defender and potential Republican presidential candidate in 2012, Trumka added, "If that's the argument you're going to do this year and next year, it's a loser."

Richard Trumka is easily compared to Joe Stalin or Pol Pot
Quick give them more rope!
Yer the loser Trumka. If I’m not mistaken Adolph Hitler abolished unions, nobody is trying to do that, that governor is just trying to pay the state’s bills. You don’t want to create jobs, unless they are dues-paying union jobs.
Glad I live in a Right To Work state.
One need only look at Trumka and his body language to know the truth about him...he's a thug and he loves being a thug.
This thing will turn ugly before it's over. Trumka and Obama both know it will get ugly because violence is the only real weapon of organizing. The threats have been made (they are implicit in organizing)...now they must be carried out.
Trumka basically threatened Barbour with union thuggery on MTP. he’s a pig. And Scott Johnson did fine.
In a nutshell, the first person to make a comparison to Hitler or to the Nazi Party has lost a given argument by virtue of the fact that they felt it necessary to make such an outlandish assertion.
If the facts were on their side, Nazi comparisons would not be necessary.
I call Godwin's Law on the unions in Wisconsin. Time for them to go home.
If there were any real reporters in the world this thug would be accurately compared to Karl Marx.
Thats Okay, I kind of think Trumka looks like Ernst Rhome.
Trumka and Marx is a very good comparison.
Why would he have to condemn this? Is there anyone left who doesn’t understand the Double Standard and who it does and does not apply to?
