Study: Oreo Cookies As Addictive As Cocaine
Research Indicates High Fat, High Sugar Foods Trigger Pleasure Center In Brain October 15, 2013 4:59 PM
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Research out of Connecticut College shows that Americas Favorite Cookie may be as addictive as cocaine.
Connecticut College psychology professor Joseph Schroeder and four students studied in rats whether high fat, high sugar foods can be as addictive as drugs of abuse.
The research looked at the behaviors and the effects the cookies had on the brain.
We found that the behavior they exhibited was equally strong for Oreo cookies as it was for cocaine or morphine, Schroeder, the director of the Behavioral Neuroscience program at Connecticut College, told WCBS 880. When we looked in the pleasure center of the brain, we found that the Oreo cookies activated the pleasure center more so than cocaine would activate the same center.
The study came about when a student expressed interest in researching the obesity epidemic, noting that low-income areas tend to have a prevalence of fast-food options.
Overall, it lent support to the hypothesis that high fat, high sugar foods can be viewed in the same was as drugs of abuse and have addictive potential, Schroeder told WCBS 880. It could be used to explain why some people have a problem staying away from foods that they know they shouldnt eat or that they know are addictive.

Not sure I like any cookies. Oreos are hard as rocks. I don’t understand why anyone would want to eat them.
Chronic sugar addiction.
You put the whole Oreo in your mouth all at once then sip some milk to let cookie dissolve.... Mmmmmmmmmm
Repeat as needed
I never buy oreos, my wife does, I never put them on a plate, I get them by the handfull.
I never eat oreos as long as homemade choclate chip cookies are available
Yuck!! It’s so hard, how long do you have to wait??
Even if you don’t like them?
I only like the peanut butter ones, but even those I only buy a couple times a year.

______________
Place Oreo in mouth. sip some milk. Let Oreo melt into milk. mmmmmmmmmmm
I swear I didn’t see your post when I posted mine, right above.
Great tastebuds, same paths.
Commercial milk is toxic. Sugar will kill you.
Even so, these "scientists" will attract plenty of grant money to continue their "research" of this serious problem.
Guess I am safe. Oreos are not high on my cookie-want list.
Next study: Are people who don’t like Oreos racist?
Oreos are the worst cookie ever invented.
Nasty!
I tried that before I mainlined them, but it hurt like hell! I must not have ground them enough.
Has any substance not been called “as addictive as cocaine” by some idiot professor?
Open the bag. Wait six months. Nothing is better than ultra-stale oreos.
My youngest grandson informed me that he had gone through the “right of passage ceremony” with his dad (my son). Asked to describe this event, he said they got a bag of Oreo cookies and two glasses of milk. Then they took the cookie halves apart, licked off the icing in the middle, dunked the remaining halves in the milk and ate them. Said it was too bad that I’d never get to do this because it was only for fathers and sons.
This was a time of sharing with his dad that he will never ever forget.
I know they tried to do them in rainbow colors and lots of people quit buying them. So these east coast idiots can keep their grubby hands and weird ideas off our Oreos.

Wasn’t it Oscar Madison that asked Felix if ‘plain tuna fish in a bowl is supposed to be crunchy?’
I’ve been known to do a ‘line’ every now and then. Especially with a glass of milk . . .
Who does these studies and how much was their federal grant?
