No, Matt is right IMO. Why vote Republican when they do nothing to show they are an opposition party.

For decades they always made deals in the middle with Democrats, but all the deals were liberal ones and they always helped slip the nation to the left.

Granted the Democrats have the press, they get money laundered to their party through government unions and have the vote of most all on the dole, so it is a daunting task in an almost one party system to do anything. Still, Republicans don’t even try these days and are just a beltway supportive party to the Democrat party these days.

End them and start again by putting Tea Party types at grass roots levels into both Democrat and Republican races.

“Because you continue to call him a Libertarian despite his repeated assertions of being a libertarian?”

See my #2. I’ve been very careful to distinguish between Libertarian and libertarian and have hurled no insults. Maybe you don’t understand the underlying ideology underpinning both.

You folks continually assert that you believe in personal choices and responsibility yet refuse to address the social implications of your beliefs. Or are you saying you are libertarian when it comes to economics and foreign policy, but want the heavy hand of government regulating social policy vis-a-vis abortion? If so, you make no sense from a libertarian standpoint. If me pointing that out makes you upset, be upset.

“Every time a conservative calls this out, libertarians on this site either pretend that the social stuff is invisible (downplay it), scold conservatives that they really don’t understand libertarian ideology, or become “cafeteria Catholics” and tell us how we must pick and choose our issues.”

I expect to get the “cafeteria Catholic” arguement next.

Bottom line, libertarians are not conservatives and are not the political allies of conservatives.

The true bottom line is that the GOP is no longer made up of conservatives and people are going to have to decide where to take their vote.

I personally don’t care if I make no sense from a libertarian standpoint. I choose not to be pro-abortion because I value the liberty of the child. Not that difficult. If you want to point out how I am inconsistent with pure Libertarian thought, fine, I am, so be it. And consistency or lack thereof back and forth is something we can play all day. We all make choices and compromises. Also this is why I use the small “l”.

And I could be taking your points and combining with several I’ve seen on these threads over the last couple of weeks.....which I should not be doing. There are in fact some real simpleton’s who like to jump into these threads.

I absolutely agree with you on this. I’ve been very careful to distinguish between conservatives vs. the GOP and libertarian vs. Libertarian.
