How North Korea Could Destroy The United States
Investor's Business Daily ^ | April 5, 2013 | IBD EDITORIALS

National Security: The administration moves an advanced missile defense system to Guam because it knows a single low-yield nuke detonated at high altitude could send America back in time a hundred years.

The announcement Wednesday by the Defense Department that it would soon deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (THAAD), a missile defense system inherited from the Bush administration, to Guam underscores the seriousness of the threat from North Korea, whose actions, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel rightly said, "present a real and clear danger."

This move comes after the Obama administration reversed its previous scuttling of Bush administration plans to increase our ground-based interceptor force in Alaska and the deployment of two destroyers equipped with Aegis missile defense systems, the Decatur and the John McCain, to the region.

Some observers dismissed it as familiar bluster when North Korea's 28-year-old raging runt, Kim Jong-un, signed an order for North Korea's strategic rocket forces to be on standby to fire at U.S. targets in front of a map that included Austin, Texas, as a target.

But other observers are concerned that a specific target may not be what the possibly imploding North Korean regime may have in mind.

The three-stage missile North Korea launched last December that also orbited a "package," which experts say could be a test to orbit a nuclear weapon that then would be de-orbited on command anywhere over the U.S. and exploded at a high altitude, releasing an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). That would fry electronic circuitry and the nation's power grid.

China always plays good-cop, bad-cop with NK.

NK won’t do anything without China’s approval.

I agree.

But every day closer that the Iranians get to a decent missile, the more real that threat becomes.

emp was not a problem then because we didnt explode them over computer chips and delicate electronic devices

the difference in what is manufactured and how is why it is an issue

and I spoke to some former spooks who did frequency analysis for DOD, they are greatly concerned about EMP and think faraday cages are a waste of time for the common man

they recommended going 400 feet underground

If anything, little Kim can attack the US and create the solidarity that we had right after 9/11.

Lets hope so...But on the other hand, it could go mad max or worse. When people get hungry and thirsty the wheels can come off quickly...Very quickly.

I no longer want to be in solidarity with about 60% of the so called Americans.

As I said, effective range isn’t that great. An old fashioned low altitude detonation over a city would be far more destructive.

Worst case scenario would be frying computer chips in a limited sized radius. Is the net effect worse than a large storm? Maybe, maybe not. Computer and smart phone sales would shoot up. Infrastructure controls would be repaired.

A USN SSBN somewhere would then put a far more destructive payload on Pyongyang.

And an EMP blast over the entire US would be overkill if the goal is to eliminate our ability to project a military presence overseas to any large extent.

Both NK and Iran are clients of both Russia and China (to varying degrees).

A good president would have it be discretely known by China and Russia, that an EMP attack that hits the US will be treated as a nuclear attack by the combined forces of Russia and China. An attack which takes out our infrastructure, with anticipated deaths in the millions would result in our expending our entire land-based nuclear missile arsenal against both China and Russia. It would thus be in the interests of both China and Russia to do something about NK and Iran.

If NK tries to use a homemade EMP device it will be detonated above the large population centers on the east or west coast. It would be much less effective over the center of CONUS.

As someone here once said.... beans, bullets and pullets. We have all three :-)

You are correct. Sadly, the past 4 administrations have coddled the NK’s and been mute about the reason NK exists at all.

Nothing is going to happen. The Chinese want to force the US to sign onto the gun treaty and they are using the Norks to play to our fears of destruction.

If we ignore the chump, in a couple of weeks he will declare that he blew up some obscure place in the US and North Korea won the war. Who in his country would know any better?

I agree with your statements.

However, how many of your neighbors have these preps in place? Are you willing to watch your neighbors kids starve? What if your neighbor is an electrical engineer with the know how to fix things once the equipment to do so becomes available? Do you let him starve?

How many of the EBT card holders do? If the rest of the infrastructure burns to the ground when the ‘youth mobs’ riot it will be far longer than 3 months before order is restored.

And those really big step down generators? Take months to deliver after an order. We no longer make those in this country.

Ha — my neighbors? Who knows . . .we aren’t a close neighborhood, and it’s really sad. The only problem I see with them is that they are TOO CLOSE to us. I see your point — but we can only do as much as we can do. We are prepping towards 100% self sufficiency within the parameters we can, balancing the needs within our monthly budget and trying to live our lives in the present. I think 3 months preparation at LEAST covers most natural disaster situations. Would we like to be prepped for more? Absolutely. But there are pesky things like current mortgages, car payments, kids’ tuition, debts, etc.

I don’t feel the situation will be like anything any of us can imagine or perfectly prepare for. Another part of MY preparation is being spiritually prepared and at peace with everyone in my circle ... I don’t know if I would make it out alive. I don’t know who will or won’t.

EBT people can suck it ...these are the people who have gotten us into this mess, so I have no pity on them whatsoever. They made their choices out of hate, racism, bitterness and victimhood — they are going to see where making choices based on those things gets them.

I know one thing about myself: I’m a survivor. I’m a thinker in tight spots and I don’t panic, unlike SO many people I know. I’m the type who can switch and adapt, to just about anything, even if it means living in a hole — short of a bullet to my head or an immediate nuclear threat. The people I worry about are the people in my family who prefer to stick their heads in the sand ...a daughter living in NYC, a college aged son who has no clue and thinks money grows on trees.

The shock will be enormous, but if we all survive, maybe it will provide the RESET we need, in terms of wiping out this nasty culture and political correctness that has been the downfall of this country.

Why the focus on complex 3-stage rockets and nukes when there are so many remote and exposed HV T-lines and substations in the US, that would take months to repair/replace/re-energize?

For emergency battery power on the cheap just get a few cheap cordless drills. Harbor Freight had some nice 18v ones recently for just 16 dollars.

The battery pack typically has 12 to 16 Nicad AA cells in it. The motor inside also works as a generator. Open the battery pack and remove the AA cells. Get a short piece of something like small rebar and put two bends in it using a bench vise so as to fashion a crank handle to fit in the drill chuck. Use a short piece of small PVC pipe to make a slip handle for the crank. Open the drill and connect the motor leads to wires so you can connect this to the batteries you wish to charge.(get the polarity right!) Secure the drill to a workbench... plumbers strap and drywall nails works well. Crank away! No regulation but it will charge batteries... Add a cheap 7805 regulator and you can safely charge something like a cellphone. A solar panel is a much easier way to charge batteries but in a pinch a hand crank generator can be useful.

Actual Quotes From the Iraqi Information Minister
(aka ‘Baghdad Bob’)

“There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!”

“My feelings - as usual - we will slaughter them all”

“Our initial assessment is that they will all die”

“I blame Al-Jazeera - they are marketing for the Americans!”

“God will roast their stomachs in hell at the hands of Iraqis.”

‘We have destroyed 2 tanks, fighter planes, 2 helicopters and their shovels - We have driven them back.”

“Surrender or be burned in their tanks.”

“No I am not scared and neither should you be!”

“We have them surrounded in their tanks”

Britain “is not worth an old shoe.”

Of U.S. troops: “They are most welcome. We will butcher them.”

“We will welcome them with bullets and shoes.”

“Washington has thrown their soldiers on the fire”

“These cowards have no morals. They have no shame about lying”

“They’re not even [within] 100 miles [of Baghdad]. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Iraq. This is an illusion ... they are trying to sell to the others an illusion.”

“They do not even have control over themselves! Do not believe them!”

“Faltering forces of infidels cannot just enter a country of 26 million people and lay besiege to them! They are the ones who will find themselves under siege. Therefore, in reality whatever this miserable Rumsfeld has been saying, he was talking about his own forces. Now even the American command is under siege.”

“They tried to bring a small number of tanks and personnel carriers in through al-Durah but they were surrounded and most of their infidels had their throats cut.”

“We made them drink poison last night and Saddam Hussein’s soldiers and his great forces gave the Americans a lesson which will not be forgotten by history. Truly.”

“On this occasion, I am not going to mention the number of the infidels who were killed and the number of destroyed vehicles. The operation continues”

“We’re giving them a real lesson today. Heavy doesn’t accurately describe the level of casualties we have inflicted.”

“I can say, and I am responsible for what I am saying, that they have started to commit suicide under the walls of Baghdad. We will encourage them to commit more suicides quickly.”

“Their infidels are committing suicide by the hundreds on the gates of Baghdad. Be assured, Baghdad is safe, protected.”

Re: Chuck Hagel rightly said “North Korea's actions present a real and clear danger.”

Have we already forgotten that Obama’s personal choice for Secretary of Defense is a complete moron?

Has anyone watched his incoherent briefings?

He's so dumb he can't even correctly plagiarize a common expression in diplomacy and military affairs.....

Correct is.....”a clear and present danger.”

NOT.....”present a real and clear danger.”
