ACKSON – Veteran Democratic state Sen. Nicky Browning of Pontotoc switched political parties Tuesday, giving Republicans a 32-20 super majority in the 52-member Senate.

Browning, 61, represents Senate District 3, which covers Pontotoc, Union and parts of Calhoun counties, and is chairman of the Senate County Affairs Committee.

He has been in the Senate since 1996.

“Conservatives in Mississippi are working to build a bright future for our state, and it is wonderful to have Senator Browning join our effort,” Gov. Phil Bryant said in a statement.

“I am very pleased to welcome him to the Republican Party.”

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, a Republican who presides over the state Senate, called Browning a social and fiscal conservative.

“The doors of the Mississippi Republican Party are open for anyone who believes in keeping taxes low, creating a strong environment for job creation and making our state a great place to raise a family,” Reeves said in a statement.

Browning, a businessman, attended Mississippi State University and Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Okay, now let’s not blow this opportunity. Do something conservative, like North Dakota. Super-majorities don’t happen every cycle.

Utmost importance:
1. Voter ID laws.
2. Tell Ubama to take his Mengelecare and shove it up his skinny a$$.
3. Gerrymander congressional districts to give max advantage to conservatives.
4. Get any gold owned by the state out of the Federal Reserve Bank and into the state’s possession ASAP.
5. Pass gun carry laws to match Vermont’s

The Tuscaloosa Marine shale play, which covers 2.7 million acres across central Louisiana and southwest Mississippi, could emerge as the next big shale oil play.

I am glad genuine people switch over if they are truly conservative.

I am leery that some moderate dems do this in order to capture the ability to control the Republicans by being the one or two votes needed to pass stuff, thereby ensuring greatly watered down legislation from the right.

I mean I’ve seen it and it’s bad enough when you have Rinos doing it, but if this is a new democrat stealth strategy to minimize republican legislation by holding good legislation hostage to be less effective, we better note it now and start refusing to allow them to be part of the party, and stay independents.

Looks like I had better check with my Wife’s Family to see if they own the Mineral Rights on their land in Adams County.

So now all Republicans will be happy, it’s all “he’s one of us now, yay!” and then this guy will turn out to be a moderate, do something moderate to tick off all the Republicans, and everybody will say “boo, he’s a RINO, he was never one of us!”

Just like the liberals say about that guy in PA who switched to the Democrats.

Dems have been switching to the Republican party in MS for many years, so this is nothing new. I don’t recall a Republican switching to the dems, however.

Interesting...

Comparing MS to PA is kinda silly, don’t you think?

There are very few people outside of Ms that really understand MS politics.
