Levin: If Obama sidesteps Congress on debt ceiling, ‘no choice’ but impeachment
The Daily Caller ^ | January 14, 213 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 01/14/2013 7:59:53 PM PST by Kaslin

On his Monday radio show, conservative talker Mark Levin said that if President Barack Obama sidesteps Congress on the debt ceiling fight and attacks the Congress’ constitutionally enumerated “core power” – that is control over spending and taxing — through executive action, Congress will have “no choice” but impeachment.

Levin explained that if unilateral action by the White House — which White House spokesman Jay Carney ruled out — were to happen, it would infringe on Congress’ “core power” and should be punished with impeachment.

“Now, if Obama unilaterally acts — and I think there’s a fan-dance going on here where his spokes-idiot [Jay] Carney is out there saying, ‘No, we’ve decided we’re not going to do this’ — if Obama, though, plays the role of Hamlet and in the end says ‘I have no choice: The Republicans are going to destroy our economy, our debt rating, all this that and the other, therefore I must unilaterally act,’ he should be impeached,” Levin declared. “Because that means Congress’ core power — in addition to declaring war — Congress’ core power, that is control over spending and taxing, will have been seized by the president of the United States in one executive order.”

“No Congress would tolerate this from any president,” Levin continued. “I don’t care if the president was Abraham Lincoln. This Congress would not have tolerated it from Richard Nixon. No Congress can tolerate such a complete and brazen frontal assault on its enumerated power. No Congress. No twisting of the language in the 14th Amendment or any way else, because we will cease to be a federal government of three coequal branches. We will cease to be that.”

And that, Levin said, would throw the entire American constitutional system of government out of order.

“And what are we going to do, ladies and gentlemen?” he said. “Throw our entire system away? Our entire Constitution away? Our entire financial system away for Obama? Why?”

“So, if a president commits a high crime and misdemeanor, which in this case is a brazen frontal attack on the Constitution itself in a way that no president has ever attacked the Constitution — ceasing power unilaterally from the Congress — then we have no choice, do we?” Levin added. “Do we, than to remove him from office? What do you think about that one, Colin Powell?”

Earlier in the day, Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman made headlines for threatening that he would file articles of impeachment against Obama if the president institutes gun control measures with an executive order.

Bless you, Levin for saying it, but that doesn’t mean that there is one single testicle that the congress-critters share among themselves.

The congress-critters are just as guilty as barry. He is right to the extent that they are the ones who authorized the spending.

I always smile listening to Levin. He’s like Allen West. Doesn’t shy away from telling it like it is. Especially enjoyed the “How would you like that, Colin Powell?”
It’s just too bad we don’t have the votes for impeachment.

I wish with all my heart that any number of Republicans wlak out or don’t show up for wither the coronation or the SOTU. And if asked why...they should say they are busy, drafting Articles of Impeachment.

Sleep tight.

They have to do it. If 0bama bypasses congress, the markets will punish the dollar because the treasuries issued henceforth will be of dubious value. No one wants to buy a bond that is at risk of being declared illegally issued by the courts. Automatic downgrade with this next fight.

Congress will have “no choice” but impeachment.

Fat chance. The House is made up of a bunch of wimps and they are just as bad as King Obama. I have no faith in our Federal Government and America will become a dictatorship.

Bless you, Steve Stockman, for speaking and being in a position to swing the sword and not just polish the blade with the tongue. Now, the problem is waiting on the dirty deed to be done before having a case, on which to proceed.

????

No choice?? Has he talked to Reid about that?

No worries,
O will get the House to extend the debt limit. He already said he wont do it by himself, he would rather humiliate them by making them do it.
Bohner probably has already decided to abandon the debt limit approach.

Levin doesn’t know this?

Obama could slit John Boehner’s throat at a live press conference and the media would marvel at his technique.

He can do anything. ANYTHING. And no one will try to stop him.

And I think he realizes it.

They authorized spending, yes, but they also set a limit to borrowing. Which controls? The debt ceiling, because you can’t spend money without it. Obama doesn’t get to choose willy-nilly, anyway, even when Congress contradicts itself.

I’m just saying Congress cannot have it both ways.

We have this attitude that the Executive is the root of all evil. No. It’s the Congress.

Obama will win this battle and the House Eunuchs will also get the blame for economic collapse and financial ruin plus 25% unemployment.

Count on it

“Obama will win this battle and the House Eunuchs will also get the blame “

So be it. If the eunuchs go along with the Kenyan, they will lose their base AND get the blame.

This whole thing needs to come to a head; sooner than later.

Levin is right of course.

But is not the second amendment just as much a "core power" of the people?

The second amendment is a close to an absolute unrestricted right as could be put in writing.

There is no wiggle room here. Obama took a very clear oath when he was sworn in. If he attempts to issue an executive order which infringes on ANY element of the right of the people to bear arms he MUST BE IMPEACHED.

If Obama can legally issue executive orders mandating any form of gun control then could he not issue an executive order banning conservative talk radio? How about just issue an executive order which abolishes the NRA. Then issue an executive order which bans Fox News, after all they are clearly not protected by freedom of speech or freedom of the press.

Gun control executive order = MANDATORY IMPEACHMENT

If the Congress does nothing, then the effect is similar to a parliamentary “no confidence vote” (not only against the Executive branch, but the Legislative as well). Congress, despite recent history of punting the ball, has always had the power of the purse. Obama gets his equivalent of the “Enabling Act”, and you students of history can take whatever you can from it.

Yeah, but this one will . . .

It’s just too bad we don’t have the votes for impeachment.

The votes for impeachment are there, if republicans have the stones, which is highly doubtful. However, there'd be well less than 50 votes to convict as squishies like Mcconnell, Graham, etc would defect to join the dems in a split second.
