David Gregory to Obama: 'Is This Your Lincoln Moment?' Obama: "I never compare myself to Lincoln." Daniel Halper December 30, 2012 11:06 AM
NBC host David Gregory asked President Barack Obama this morning, "Is this your Lincoln moment?"
The question came up after Obama invoked the movie Lincoln when talking about Republicans and Democrats coming together to work out a deal on the "fiscal cliff.
"Well, no," Obama said in response to Gregory's question. "Look, a) I never compare myself to Lincoln. And b) obviously the magnitude of the issues is quite different from the Civil War and slavery. The point, though, is democracy has always been messy. We're a big diverse country that is constantly sort of arguing about all kinds of stuff. But eventually, we do the right thing."
Obama thinks he’s better than Lincoln...but can’t write a speeche and has to read what others write.
From Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address :
I therefore consider that in view of the Constitution and the laws the Union is unbroken, and to the extent of my ability, I shall take care, as the Constitution itself expressly enjoins upon me, that the laws of the Union be faithfully executed in all the States. Doing this I deem to be only a simple duty on my part, and I shall perform it so far as practicable unless my rightful masters, the American people, shall withhold the requisite means or in some authoritative manner direct the contrary. I trust this will not be regarded as a menace, but only as the declared purpose of the Union that it will constitutionally defend and maintain itself.
In doing this there needs to be no bloodshed or violence, and there shall be none unless it be forced upon the national authority. The power confided to me will be used to hold, occupy, and possess the property and places belonging to the Government and to collect the duties and imposts; but beyond what may be necessary for these objects, there will be no invasion, no using of force against or among the people anywhere. Where hostility to the United States in any interior locality shall be so great and universal as to prevent competent resident citizens from holding the Federal offices, there will be no attempt to force obnoxious strangers among the people for that object. While the strict legal right may exist in the Government to enforce the exercise of these offices, the attempt to do so would be so irritating and so nearly impracticable withal that I deem it better to forego for the time the uses of such offices. 18
The mails, unless repelled, will continue to be furnished in all parts of the Union. So far as possible the people everywhere shall have that sense of perfect security which is most favorable to calm thought and reflection. The course here indicated will be followed unless current events and experience shall show a modification or change to be proper, and in every case and exigency my best discretion will be exercised, according to circumstances actually existing and with a view and a hope of a peaceful solution of the national troubles and the restoration of fraternal sympathies and affections...
We could recast this perfectly well into the future as so many States have rejected participation in AbominationCare that its scheme of health insurance “exchanges” cannot possibly work as intended. So, the federal government will have to imposed health care insurance upon people and impose premiums, fees and taxes to support it. Those will all be higher than anyone thought they would be and there will be a general refusal to pay them.
Thus we bring ourselves exactly to the point the Southern States were at when Lincoln penned these words: If you send us the amount we demand for YOUR health care, we won’t “invade” you by seizing your bank accounts. If too many people “go Gault”, politely and peacefully declining to participate will NOT BE PERMITTED by a power hungry and narcissistic president.
The parallels are chilling. Let us hope the analogy ends there without the bloodshed.

I’ve compared Obama to Lincoln ever since Obama took office. Which POS, in order to win support for his oppression and excessive taxation of a large portion of the US; whipped up annimosity and ill will between factions to a fever pitch instead of trying to unite them?
Which POS used the plight of a minority to ignite public sentiment and enlarge his constituency even though that minority’s equality wasn’t one of his own beliefs.
What POS authorized the theft, commandeering, deprivation abd destitution of the portion of the US that had prospered more than the other?
Lincoln authorized the scorched earth policy that resulted in Union soldiers burning, pillaging and stealing of shelter, food and sustenance in the middle of winter for Southern women, children and elderly because they were “rebels”. That puts Lincoln on the same level of Beshar Assad, yet Lincoln is a historical icon in this country. The victor writes history.
I don’t think we’ve seen the full potential of our illustrious “Dear Leader” as of yet. There may be even more historic figures we can compare him to before this is over.
We’ve gone stright to “Reconstruction 2”. The media are the carpetbaggers and copperheads this time.
The MSM plus all the top executives at all the labor unions, starting with the SEIU and the AFL-CIO - and all their properties wherever they may be.
Well, yeah, that’s what I meant: he was a gentleman. Gregory not only looks like Frankenstein, he has all the charm of Count Dracula.
Gregory is just the catcher to bammy’s pitcher.
The best moment the Kenyan thug will ever have is a Howdy Doody moment.
Greggy sure was wear his presidential knee pads.
Is Obama going to see 600,000 Americans killed like Lincoln did?
Lincoln stopped being a great president once the Great Society was enacted. Sorry Abe, you lacked sufficient imagination to see the damage you caused.
more accurately, Lincoln cheated at golf?
I was going to say AMC Pacer moments...but O.K.
I only said Pinto because of the exploding gas tanks
David is a pawn slut who is a pig! He makes me sick!!!! He was coho sting on NBC the other day dancing in the back ground. He makes me sick!!!!
Barack Hussein Buchanan.
Early in his presidency, George W. Bush had a joint press conference with someone from France (maybe Chirac). David Gregory made a point of asking a question in French to put down Bush for not knowing French. Snarkier than the average MSM twit.
Of course it was harder to get the teleprompters to work because Edison hadn't invented electricity yet.
“After all, it was Lincoln that turned the United States from a lose collection of Sovereign states with a weak central government into the Hotel California where you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave (the Republic).”
President Washington personally lead an army into the field to prevent the secession of western Pennsylvania. Right or wrong, the notion that “you can never leave” didn’t start with President Lincoln, who was following almost 100 years of federal precident vis-a-vis insurrections.
I think the last time we were actually “a loose collection of Sovereign states with a weak central government...”, as you describe, was under “The Articles of Confederation and PERPETUAL UNION” (full title, emphasis mine lol).
David gregory to obama, can I kiss your a## again I dont think I did it right.
The media has one job which is to promote communism and they do it well.
Happy New Year
I respect the military and the Defense Department but aside from them the Federal Gov’t is a jobs, medical benefits and pension program that can fund itself via printing it’s own imaginary money via the Federal Reserve buying up Federal issued debt
This Federal jobs program is increasing the preserve of liberals, gays, and incompetent affirmative action hires such as lesbians, women and minorities. They will only hire their own. This theme varies from Federal agency to Federal agency
“You have skill Davey, your lips did not irritate my piles.”
Gregory - “Mr. President, what’s like being so f*cking awesome?”
Obama - casts eyes downwards “It’s tough, David. It really gets to me sometimes.” wipes away tear
